Your poem was really different from other poems. I liked the color you chose and the layout too. You told quite a good story too.....

This very visual write of yours plus your notes made me cry, this is so very sad, I am scared of this disease along with the dreaded 'A' disease that I will not say or write, don't want to feed my brain with the word at all. Your sorrow in seeing your Mother this way has to be so heartbreaking and as inadequate a word sorry is, I am truly sorry.

Cannot find it in me to say a great write when the subject is as this is...Dinah

You will be relieved to know, Dinah, that my mother was diagnosed prematurely - she went into hallucinations after a massive nose bleed/ haemorrhage - they didn't expect her to recover - but a couple of days later, she woke up totally lucid! She still has some word finding difficulties, but is now sharp as a tack! So let's hold those vibrations out there for all of us! Best wishes and many, many thanks - Sharyn

I think this poem needs much attention! A bit surrealistic poem written in a ''realistic'' way with the appropriate vocabulary, to express metaphoric meanings, in exceptional vocabulary, showing contemplation and a particular, sould as well as thinking of author! Reading it more times, you understand it more and more getting the true meanings, of a ''mystery'' somehow! I would suggest it to others!!

Thx KRAT! and thanks, too, for re-reading ... it has one simple level and then quite a few others if you care to re-examine ... thank you for taking the time!

Visionary,

I can't imagine what you and yours must be going through. This was a very interesting write, hard to read, brutal. I wasn't expecting the notes at the end, but I suppose it makes sense.

How sad your poem is, but how well you have described this disease that takes away the mind and does who-knows-what with it. The victims of it truly need our patience and understanding as well as our prayers.

This was beautifully haunting. It has to be hard to watch a family member who once had it all together, so helpless. It hurts even more to know it's out of your hand. Remembering what they use to be it was probably plagues them the most. This was a loving dedication, and a great way to vent. Thanks for sharing.

So very sorry to hear this. This is a tragic poem full of raw emotion and blatant horror. It's good to let it all out like this. It's a wonderful piece of poetry... just sorry it was inspired by something so sad. :(

Thx so much Phyllis - and in my true mother's style, you'll be pleased to hear she's actually now doing very well! It was brought on as a reaction to shock and loss of bloody from a nose bleed which turned into an uncontrollable haemorrhage ... she actually woke up LUCID, do you believe that!?

I read this and thought it was something to do with dementia.
It is a heart breaking diagnosis. I have it too with MS damage to my left brain. What helps me is the right brain is so far unaffected....I could feel this pain, this loss....
Thank you for sharing my friend....

First of all, I'm sorry that your mother has been diagnosed with such a cruel, identity robbing illness. I hope you have support mechanisms to help you walk, and perhaps at times crawl along the road ahead of you. In terms of your poem, it's an amazing poem, descriptive write about someone who is no longer who they were, is unable to behave as they once did. Your depiction is vivid, with strong alliteration and feeling. The reader cannot but feel your despair. So sad.

You made it easy for me to 'get' it, Sharyn. Remember to take care of yourself as you're taking care of your family and your mum, because if you don't take care of you, you can't take care of them. Tricia x

Your heart-wrenching, shatteringly realistic poem effectively describes the terror and shock that dementia patients and their families go through. Especially
powerful--"shipwrecked she sleeps"!
