Quite interesting how having more info can make all the difference. I did not know initially how to rate your poem and was going to pass on it. Then I read your notes, and suddenly, what you had written made sense. Well done. I am so happy you added the comments. But far more importantly, I'm glad for you and your mother that she is OK. Thanks.

Very intense. slightly traumatized. You did an excellent job in the writing of this, the way you emphasized certain words, it was also very graphic. Very glad she was misdiagnosed.

Oh, this is definitely worth six stars. I definitely know what your went through with your mother, as my father suffered from the effects of dementia for years. You're so lucky your mother's case was a misdiagnosis. You describe very vividly your mother's terrifying symptoms. The imagery of gold spoons, red pearls, and scarlet flowers is beautifully handled. Your last stanza declaring that your mother would not wish such suffering on you makes a perfect conclusion. judiverse

then I have succeeded Herb, in capturing the horror of some peoples' old age - not something we want to contemplate too often, but with its own weird kind of wonder ... thx so much for staying the course and hopefully, appreciating its craftsmanship!

Thanks so much my dear - I love the freedom of free verse, but also love playing with words to increase the "sound-sense" - if you've read any Gerard Manley Hopkins or DH Lawrence you'll see the masters at work there. Blessings! Sharyn
