I know how you feel about those rejection slips. I have received a few too. No surprise there I guess lol. I am a survivor and will get right back in there and give it all I got.

LOL- great poem 'they hated what a writ'- a hoot, cpj. Great flow and rhyme and the message is one all of us brave and determined writers have received and felt just like you. Keep going until pigs fly... I could wallpaper my bathroom with my rejection slips, and I still submit my two books and enter competitions on a regular basis. I am published in 4 anthologies, but by gosh I am going to have my own book published before I bite the dust. :) Thanks for the smile and boost. Enjoyed. Joycex

Thanks Joyce...I appreciate your thorough review...I've done the self publishing bit but I think the real test is the submissions to real publishers...obviously they DON'T all recognise talent when they read it! LMAO
    Thanks again

Hi :)

Excellent piece, well written and oh so true. You have the right attitude and that's a fact.

I'm a vet from the battle field of the rejection wars.

Hang in there, you'll a decorated vet yourself someday soon.

My sixth novel will hit Amazon later this summer.

Good luck with your poems.

Ted

Why thanks so much for the sixer and terrific reviewTed...congrats on your hexa-novel-status...LOL
I've done the self publishing thing the once and one anthology and am currently involved in another about to hit the shelves but I really want to try the publishing houses this year to see if I DON'T have what it takes. LOL
    Cheers and thanks again

    Hi :)

These days traditional publishing is more out of reach than ever. The big houses won't give a book without an agent a passing glance. Even with that it takes forever to get a deal. I'm too old and don't have time to play the game.

I'm pulling in royalties, so a few folks are enjoying my books.

After all, that's what I wrote them for.

    Good luck.

    I understand fully Ted.
We had a couple of women here in Australia who SELF published a cookbook called "4"...recipes using 4 ingredients...the real publishers wouldn't touch them...well their books made millions and they published a couple more...and now one of them has actually started a publishing company here in Oz...hey, maybe I'll drop her a submission or two. Haha
Thanks for the great advice...I have a feeling I am in for a lotta rejection slips before I get my first ever acceptance slip.
Cheers and good luck with your writing too Ted. Thanks again for the terrific encouragement.

    Hi Phillippa :)

    Good to communicate with you.

I don't know of anybody who looks a a book's spine and says, "I won't buy this novel, it's not published by Simon & Shuster" or "Doubleday" or "Berkley" or "Viking" most readers couldn't care less.

My novel "Deathmaker" was edited and published by "Omega Publications" a family owned enterprise and great to work with. The owner is Gayle Farmer [Showboat] on FS. The senior editor is Norman Howell [Nor84] on FS. Gayle's husband, Jeff, does all the interior design to perfection. It was an expensive project, but worth every penny. "DM" is a fat book at 460 pages. Therefore, the process requires a lot of work and give & take.

During the course of the experience I learned how it's done. I established "Dragon Lair Books" and published four additional books under my own imprint.

I'm now in the process of helping an FS member publish her collection of short stories through "DLB". I'm handling all the interior and cover design.

So far as anyone is concerned "Dragon Lair Books" could be the imprint of any one of the traditional publishers.

By self-publishing/POD, you avoid a minefield of possible destruction. You don't have to be concerned about bookstore returns, having a low print-run or waiting months for an agent to place your book, and then more months for the book goes to market.

The major drawback to SP/POD is promotion. Without it and great word of mouth, sales will be low.

Who knows what new channels will open in the future.

Hi, Pip. Without exaggeration, I have at least 220 rejection cards and pseudo letters in the bottom drawer of my desk. Not for the book I am presently finishing, but short stories. Poetry is the hardest thing to get published I heard.

Bless your heart, you seem to be taking it well, but I know how your heart pounded when you saw your first. So sorry. Chin up as you say. Good girl! Bob

Thanks Bob and you are bang on...the heart pounded...and then I heard it sigh! LOL...not to worry...I'm prepared for the worst now and shall expect rejection EVERY time...that way when I am finally accepted I will die of shock and still not get fucking published for real. LMAO
Cheers and thanks for your supportive review.

I enjoyed reading your honest write. Good job.Yes, they will come. I know Stephen King received a lot of those. I believe J.K. Rowling was rejected some too before the right publisher found her amazing "Harry Potter" manuscript. Keep going, flying, and writing. Just like the incomparable Journey and one of their amazing songs, "Don't Stop Believing..." My motto. It will happen....

This is an excellent set of quatrains that flows so well and the rhymes are punchy (not forced at all). Love your attitude and the massage in the whole poem--you should be proud because you actually tried to get published, rather than hiding out here on FS. You're probably right about rejection being a dues paying step in the process--anyways, I think this one's a very funny write. Congratulations on your rejection:)
