Mixed emotions well expressed. Nicely written as you gradually reveal that she was not a great wife to him. But he's going to miss that stability and need time to adjust.

Ah, Suse, there is so much more to this story. Why was she grey? Why was he always away? Why were there no appropriate words? You turn some wonderful phrases, but You leave me wanting more.

Hi Lee...I love leaving some to the imagination? I tried to convey that he wasn't the best hubby either...'never there'...There's always two sides to every story I guess. And most are comfortable in their 'secure misery'. It's a shame. Anyway, thank you my friend. Good to hear from you! Susan
