So true, that we seem to operate on a reciprocity basis. I like the way you describe the new Powder's home coming and his new form. The last two paragraphs just make you sympathise with the woman. I hope your luck changes and the rings finally fall within your grasp. Regards TM

I always wondered what "Powder" was. Why he disappeared into lightning. << A reference to what? Please elaborate for those of us not familiar with this.
This was intriguing and a good read. I like that you told it from both perspectives.

Hi Phyllis! I have never figured it out...if you can, or are inclined to, try to watch the movie? It's a lovely show...Mary Steenburgen is the star, Jeff Goldblum, and others. VERY different. Let me know if you like it? AND thank you for a great review...I wish I could answer your question...hug! Susan

Well, I'm still not sure what this is supposed ton be about, and who Powder is etc. But it is very mysterious and evocative. I wouldn't mind a little more exposition and context here, but what the hey? Ya can't have everything. The guy is really rain personified. I think. Nice ending.

This read almost more like a poem than a story, but that is what makes it so good and unusual. It makes the reader want to read more and know the characters deeper..but alas, it is a flash fiction story..so you did a good job of not overdoing..nice work

A well written surreal story. With good imagery
and imagination. I particularly like the interweaving
of the spirits in the form of mist.
A compelling and enjoyable read.
Good luck in the comp... Mel.

this is very well written, susan, you did a great job writing this ending to Powder. i saw it in the movie theater and it made me cry. it's a shame it didn't win the prompt.

Comment from Earl of Oxford
Hi, Susan.
I was intreagued and glued to this original and inspired story.
Wonderful personification of the entity, 'Powder'.
'he did not feel superior, just different' - that's a great way to 'feel' without being a snob or a pretentious bore.
I didn't understand why he had 'red eyes' when mortal, but that didn't matter at all, as the 2nd half of your write was very thought-provoking.
Wonerful atmosphere here.
Well worth my sixer.
Best wishes, earl

Oh what lovely images your story leaves in my mind, Susan. Powder was a great little movie, and I like the way you've taken the story to the next step. Makes me want to see the movie again! Great contest entry, my friend. I wish you the best of luck in the voting booth. Hugs, Bev
