Realist101, what a writer you are. Such an incredible story created in such brevity. Tension, plot, characters all in one short potent story,, rise and fall.. amazing, absolutely.. well done... jlsavell

Another realistic story you've penned Susan, your stories brings a lot of vivid images through by your words. It's like I'm being inside in your story, it means only excellent writer's can do that.
I can feel the dismay of the farmer's eyes.
Thank you for sharing this one, it's very worthy read.
Love much,

What a horrible, unthinkable disaster at the center of this excellent vignette, Susan. What's frightening is how easily this scenario could play out. With the new strains of bacteria attacking both humans and animals, you've likely written a trule-life scenario. You sure made me care about the farmer and his animals. Great write!
Kind regards, Bev

Susan,
You write another fine story with emotional detail playing through your words to paint a visual for the reader. You enable your reader to clearly experience Lincoln's angst, despair, anger, and eventually acceptance. Your characters are believable, as is the dialog. When I read your stories, I always end up feeling as if I have just watched a little movie. If your goal is connection, engagement, with your readers, you have succeeded! Again!!!

Hey - no problem. We all get far behind. Hugs. Judy

This well written piece highlights the human side of bovine bacteria. For every story of animals being slaughtered to stop disease, there is a farmer whose living is threatened or maybe just loved some of his animals. That isn't usually reported on the news.
Excellent!

Oh! That's all I can say for the minute.
I was there with this farmer and I felt for him. Thank goodness for Lily dog.
What a heartbreaking situation so many farmers face in so many countries. A hazard of the job some would say, with their business head on. A tragedy of the heart other's would say.
Tiny typo:
'"So, you gonna pay me for 'em? You know how much (their) worth?' they're
The horrors of Foot and Mouth will never be forgotten in the UK. Here there is compensation, but some farmers still topped themselves because of the heartache of a life's work down the drain, as they saw it.
So well written and expressed. Thanks for a meaningful read. Anna
P.S. Now you really must cheer up LOL

Good morning, Susan, I have enough trouble keeping up with this site. I can't imagine how difficult it is for you.
I for one am not thinking any less of you because you don't have time to respond. Just assume that I'm not expecting you to, and (possibly) have already forgotten if you have or not, haha, it's an age thing! Shhhh!
Cheers, Anna

Oh dear. Well, I still feel badly. You're a great encouragement Anna...so please remember that I do read every word you send. Even if I can't get right back with you? :) ps...I would forget my head if it weren't attached. Seriously. lol!

Your perfect picture choice segues into your well-worded story. You paint a picture of shock, anger and depression. I have no idea how many farmers have lost their livelihood for the very same reasons. All the hard work, sacrifice and plain old blood, sweat and tears can not have a price tag put on them. Thank heavens his love of his pet dog was motivation to help him want to continue to live.

A six star write.
Boy, this was powerful. You took another mental snapshot and painted a canvas full of emotion.
Exceptional post.
Have no idea how you move so effortlessly from one character to the next without giving them common characteristics, but you don't. Your characters are individually tragic, crusty or just plain interesting, every one.
