What an excellent story. Every sentence was expertly written. I've never dealt with the loss of a loved one. Especially one whom I had to care for before their death. What a strong person you are for making it through such strife.

It's creepy the way people gawk whenever an ambulance shows up. At least your hero had the decency to feel ashamed of himself. Working for home care, I've had to call a few ambulances over the years. Your story describes exactly what happens.

This is truly a sad story, not just for the Fatals but for you having experienced your Mom's passing and having cared for her for so long. My deepest condolences. The reader is so engaged it is as if he/she was actually there as one of the onlookers. The helplessness of the onlookers is seen, because even though some probably were there, like yourself, not just for mere curiosity, but because you had been in a similar situation, you really couldn't do anything for that couple. Good job.

This is an excellent write. It gave me goose bumps.

I realized that there are no instant replays for bumps in the night. (DARN, there should be.)

As the Ambulance pulled away, (lower case 'a' on ambulance)

Great job with setting the scene here. I can see my neighbors milling about.

Good form here, I didn't see any spag issues.

Moving on, yes, we in order to live well must get to that point at some time. Thanks for sharing, this was well done.

Damn it, Lee. This needs a warning. A warning for all mushy hearts to clutch a Kleenex when reading this or be prepared to drip on the keyboard.

This is a stunning write from all kinds of aspects. Your observations, your sharing with neighbors, and your realization that the time was here to move ahead...although it never moves so far ahead that you can't touch the emotions and memories inside you.

A deserving sixer and I thank the star gods that I have one for you, my friend. What an incredible story-teller you are--fiction or non-fiction.
