I'll give you a fiver here because the piece is well written. However, it is depressing in the end.
A would be great story, tainted by sadness. Lowe, that is your style. Even Lovecraft, though strange, was entertaining.
I hope you've sent something off to Every Day Fiction like I suggested.

How bitter sweet this piece is. And how brave you are to pour yourself out the way you do. I think your courage matches your writing. Both shine.
The notion of the apple tree as a ship on a sea worked well. It becomes a life-raft, a means of escape and for a while there a little Noah's Arch. The bees were also an inspired addition to the story - again the bitter and the sweet - the honey and the sting.
You were fortune to find so much solace in books and I liked the way you took an element from each story and made it part of your story. As a result this vignette is sprinkled through with those well-known images and heart-tugging moments.
The kittens, to my mind, were your children, whom you parented and nurtured in the way you wanted and needed to be nurtured. You were true to them, even if your counterparts weren't true to you.
You give a potted history of a girl's life, and it's one many of us can relate to. Yes, the old crows tried to warn us, but we wouldn't be told. We fell for the lines and the lies, gave the sex and never got the love. I think you encapsulated that for us all.
Your writing was lyric, as always, and though the piece was mostly sad, the uplifting ending left the reader with a sense of quiet joy, and of having endured and survived despite it all.
