I like your way of writing verse, Mrgrunty, its very lyrical and easy to read. Your story is a good one too, I love how the 1st stanza takes you into the reminiscence of your childhood, then leads you through quite a fearful time of growing up. I like how you come to the end, back to where you began knowing that now there is nothing you can't achieve. An excellent trip into a really good story. xsx

A good set of rhyming quatrains, metered 8/6/8/6 Excellent cadence and tells a good story of one mans journey that parallels many. Excellent word choices and description.

What a fascinating piece of poetry mr g. I am a rhyme and metre freak and your piece certainly satisfied my appetite for that. This look back through where you've been in life with memories of a frightened child feeling unsafe growing into the man, while you make some very profound observations along the way. I loved your line "The wilderness can lose a man" rather than the other way round. It was unexpected and said a great deal and you come full circle in your story which I like. I found it interesting that you chose to punctuate the end of thoughts with a full stop but then proceeded to write the following line with a lower case letter which is what is usually done for an enjambment so I admit I don't quite understand why you did that but that very small point did nothing to spoil your flawless metre. You didn't allow me to stumble even once, anywhere, it was so smooth and the thoughts you conveyed helped my interest from beginning to end. From one Australian (sadly, 60 something), to another, I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. The Blue Pixel

What a great review!
I love it when a reader gets so much out of it because they put more into reading it.
Amongst my friends here they all refer to me as being the metre guy and I must admit that it just comes naturally to me and I don't understand how it isn't obvious to most! lol
I owe a lot of my interesting ways of phrasing things to Bob Dylan who influenced me greatly fom my teens. Most people don't even realise what a fantastic and av-ante Gard wordsmith he is and was.
I also like to play with structures and formats that appeal to me which is why I do some things without any real reason...
hope that helps to explain a bit about who is me?
Great to see a fellow digger on here and a metre lover too!

This person has amazingly survived and has been transformed into a variety of experiences that involve childhood, fear, religion, sexual relationships, and back again to understanding his competence in all that he has been through.
