Suse, your picture left me breathless! I'm not familiar with the term "gypsy horse". Please explain. She seems to have Arabian blood - such a delicate head. I'm glad you rewrote the story's ending. You've given it the happy, hopeful ending the characters deserve. :) Nancy

Hi Nancy! Yes, that photo is astounding...truly. A Vanner Gypsy is a breed, I saw this pix and tried to find them for sale in Indiana...but they are EXPENSIVE!! Of course. Can't afford at all. These originated in Ireland, they pulled the real, and still do, gypsy wagons. Just google? SO interesting...They have 'feathers' around their feet just like Clydesdales. And I send a heartfelt thank you for this super note too. Nice to know you enjoyed this...hug! Susan

I don't know the movie Susan, but your story is gorgeous. Horses do bond with people and some more than others. This must have been a dear old man and his boss and friends paid tribute to this.

Thank you so much for this marvelous, uplifting, and heart warming story. With so much pain and sadness in the world it is heart warming to read a story of so much love and kindness. I enjoyed this very much. I do hope you are feeling better. I think of you every day.

My friend Juanito bought me a new laptop today. I am repaying him on the time payment plan and and just tickled pink that my computer problems may finally be over...wish me luck.

OH GOOD! What a nice thing Juanito has done! Wow! :o)) Really, that is great...tell him your friend sends him a hug? And I'm so happy you liked this....that movie just killed me and has stuck with me for over a year. Sasha...I was feeling so much better, and about an hour ago, this pain hit me again with a vengeance ... I am here trying to say thank you's...I get so darned far behind it's awful! I do hope you new pc is a good one and no one hacks you. I really don't know why it's so hard to stop criminals on computers. The you know what's can 'get' a criminal clear around the world, and can't get a hacker???????????? BS. LOVE and hugs Sasha. Susan

Susan,

This is an excellent story of how an unassuming old man, living alone, found out he had friends. I enjoyed this post and have a couple of comments:

"And when she moved it was [as] if there were tiny wings on her hooves."

"...the man's boss came {as a friend} to check on his faithful employee." I'd take the words, "as a friend," out. They are easy to stumble over, and the rest of the paragraph makes it clear that the boss was concerned, not angry.

Hi, Suse. I read and I enjoyed. Tis indeed a beautiful animal. I'm not a horseman----only rode a few times when a teenager. Knew a young lady, very well to do, that lived upstate in New York---on a beautiful farm---family owned but did not work--hired help. had some beautiful horses and she was an excellent show rider. Occasionally, when she wanted to seduce me, we would ride waay out on her property----ah, for youth.

OK. You owe me. I just read yours. I have just posted one--different--did not make front page-my work seldom does regardless how much I promote--politics-I piss-off the site. Anyway, title is "Mind Games."

Take care. You living in Ind. now? Son and man? Rid of the problems?

Rob

Write us a story about it?? That would be a good one!! You should use it for some contest! You win once in while, more than me! Thank you for the kind note! Good to hear from you!! Susan

I really enjoyed your read and was even happier when I read you changed this to a happy ending. I think a sad one, would have been too much of a bummer!

HI Virginia! Thank you! Yes, the movie is sad...he commits suicide. So I just thought it would be fun to make a happy end for it. Sort of short, compared to the movie. But fun. Hugs and best!! :o)) Susan

This was indeed a very warm and touching story, but then again you have always had a knack for writing about animals in your stories. That indeed is one beautiful horse, I don't think I have ever seen one like it, with its pure white mane and brown and white spots. It must be very rare. It was cool you let the character live instead of dying like in the movie. God bless you and yours. Kudos. ;)

HI Bryan! It's a Vanner Gypsy horse/mare. They are from Ireland, originally used to pull the gypsy carts. I wish I could own one! LOL! WAY expensive tho...and I have three I should really sell anyway. Things are just too expensive. Everything is geared for the wealthy. Literally. Thank you for a kind and welcome review Bryan. :) Susan

Such a beautiful and heart-warming story!

It seemed as I read that there could be a little more development at the point when the man was so very sick. His boss came to check when he didn't reach him on the phone. But how did the others know to bring food for him and the animals when they didn't yet know whether or not he was alive, or if he'd gone away. Just a sentence or two more at that point might do it nicely.
I'd also like to hear more about the Gypsy horse, what she looked like( specifics about her beauty, her size, her color, her eyes, etc), why she was there, etc.

Ones should be one's (She took one's breath away)since it is possessive.

In the third paragraph it would be better to use active rather than passive tense. Instead of "the brood could be found waiting", simply say "the brood waited".

I love this man. He warmed my heart thanks to your description of him. We need to connect to other species much more than we do now in today's world.
