There's an episode from an old Home Box Office series you might recall, Suze. Tales from the Crypt, do you remember that? The old Crypt Keeper was the host, a puppet controlled by Kevin Yager, who also did the voice.
Anyhow, in the episode titled, "Collection Completed", actor M. Emmitt Walsh plays a man who retires from his job after forty years, and now his wife (who seems okay but a little bit flaky) would be stuck having him around the house, 24/7. Their home was overrun with animals of all kinds--squirrels, dogs, cats... You name it, this guy's wife had it. Her husband was not particularly fond of all her animals. So, he began killing, then stuffing them.
I won't reveal the ending, but I'll put it to you this way...
...the guys wife got to keep her animals.
I kinda saw the ending to your stroy coming, and knew Deirdre was up to no good. Too bad Ronald didn't realize it. He might not have such a sore throat now if he had. I pictured Deirdre rolling Ronald up in a rug, carting him off, then stuffing him too. You know, for sentiments sake?
This was a great horror story, the very kind I like to read, as well as write.
Good stuff (no pun intended, heh-heh)!
Thanks so much for recommending it.

Hey Dean! I'm just tickled to death! >:) that you enjoyed this! My brother also loved it and told me it should be a movie. LOL! Thank you for this great note. You've made my day! honest! Suse and LOVE the graphics here too! :D
-
No worries, Suse. It was entirely my pleasure.

Hi again, didn't mean to short change you with a reply! I had company all of a sudden. But, yes, I used to watch Tales, but didn't know who the voice was. And M. Emmett is one of my fav actors. I loved him in that movie with France McDormand. He was a PI who was a killer. What was the name of it? Ahhhh...Coen brothers film. They did Lady Killers, etc...DARK humor! I'll try to find that show/episode online and watch it soon. Thanks again Dean.

"Blood Simple" is the name of the film, Suse.
I have it in my movie library. It's one of my favorites due to all the plot twists involved.
-
Yes! Thanks. I was thinking of 'Simple Plan' with Billy Bob Thornton! But I knew that wasn't quite right. If you haven't seen it, it's good.
-
Yeah, I just happen to own that one too, lol. With Bill Paxton, about the mob money on the crashed airplane in the woods, right?
Yeah, it's a good 'un.

Yes! Love that movie. I've watched it so many times. Is M. Emmett still living? I should google. He's awesome.

It's a very good story. Though I could anticipate the ending, it was good and strong.
The story flows in a good pace - it's not too slow to stop the onterest, ot troo quick for loosing the interest in earlier lines.
The wording is good too. Characters are well defined.
A well written story.

First off let me state I am not good with punctuation and grammar so I certainly do not critique. I could be considered a bad reviewer because if I can't give a 4 or a 5 I normally skip. What I can do is say if I like it...and I did very much, it held my attention whilst I held my breath
wondering how it was going to end.
Thank you for entertaining me today

Heck, Susan, I never saw that coming! Very creepy, and such a clever progression from that innocuous first line. What a brilliant second sentence. I so admire your imagination!
I was a bit thrown by changes of tense between paras 1 and 2, which could be a bit clearer.
Perhaps because I am a Brit, I didn't understand "Cujo".
Good dialogue and progression through the story. Maybe I realised something nasty was going to happen when you described Deirdre's appearance under the street lamp. Oooherr...
A fantastic touch, as well, the click of the toenails on the floor.
A terrific read, and I wish you luck with it.

Good work, Suse. This is a genre I just can't seem to work in, but You do a fine job of telling a grisly and suspenseful tale. You have a fine mix of believable dialogue and direct narrative.
Taxidermy is always creepy to me.
Peace, Lee

Hello Susan. You did a fine job with this exciting story. Well written, great dialogue, and interesting from start to end. The opening line was a text book example of hooking the reader to pull them into the story. Great job...Tim

This is crazy! But in a good way though LOL Can't imagine someone would stay with a woman who keeps her dead animals stuffed in the first place, but hey, it's not for me to judge LOL Brilliant contest entry, you've got my vote! :) xx
