Hello Bev, my friend I enjoyed reading your fascinating article about Mrs. Jefferson, it's gravitating from beginning to the last paragraph and I learned quite a lot about stuff I didn't know before, for example about the six children the late president had with his slave Sally Hemmings, I thought there was only one and also, about Sally's relationship to Mrs. Jefferson. One impression I got after reading is that although, it's about Mrs Jefferson, I felt I was reading about the president, I guess because of his domineering personality. I appreciate you sharing this wonderful write with us, thank you very much.

Thank you, ameen. I think you've made an excellent point about Thomas as puppeteer behind the scenes. Martha, had she lived, would have stood her ground against him - as she did when she made him promise not to marry again. It's telling to me, that he actually did keep that promise.

Thanks for stopping by, my wonderful and perceptive friend. Always a delight to hear from you! Warm regards, Bev

This is a fantastic slice of American history of which I was not aware. And, what a romantic telling. You've added just enough fact to spice up the quotes and move the reader emotionally. Hats off to you. It's well written and paced and I didn't see any SPAG.

Love,
Tina

Bev,
Your story about Jefferson and Sally is fabulously written with concrete imagery your well composed words in your story. You used the following:

Narrative: great
Characerization: excellent
Use of devices Metaphor: very good
Content: excellent
I was intrigued at what you pointed out at the end of your historical-esk story: "Sally Hemmings was to have been officially emancipated under the terms of Patsy Jefferson Randolph's will. Sadly, Mistress Hemming's death preceded that of Patsy Jefferson, denying her the experience of life as a free woman." I'd recommend your story to other reviewers. Keep on writing enjoyable fiction. I bid you a magnificent day...Melissa.

Writingfundimension:

Thank you for further insights into one of the presidents
from my great state of Virginia, also known as the home
of Presidents. Thomas Jefferson was a man of many conflicts as evidenced by the inspired words he wrote for our Constitution and the life he lived. Did he truly believe what he wrote but did not have the guts to enforce it for fear of what his peers might think? It is a question for which we will never have an answer.

thanks for sharing
love,
jan

This was most informative.

You write with precision as you impart your knowledge.

It would appear Presidential libido was as rampant back then as rumour would suggest it was in both the Kennedy and Clinton administrations. I guess some things never change.

A most enlightening read

You did a wonderful job telling this story of history. You tell your story in an easy to follow, way with an engagin voice that makes your eassy as interesting as it is clear. You have successfully managed to add a number of interesting details to a well known story. I belive Mrs. Sally Hemming was aroung 14 years when she sailed to Paris. It's so funny how different things were. Slaved was another sad fact of the time in which Jefferson lived. Excellent research contrives to hold the attention of the reader.

Thank you so very much for your great review, HP. I really appreciate you sharing your insights with me and your generous support. Slavery is still, sadly, taking place throughout the world. As much a travesty it is that Thomas Jefferson seduced a young woman who depended on him for her safety, she probably had a much better life than others of her situation. Warm regards, Bev
