This is truly a humorous story, bhogg, and well told. You don't force the story, but let it tell itself so it sounds natural, in your own voice. Your grandfather sounds like quite a character and you relate some interesting stories about him. The incident with throwing out the radio was great, and the headline was funny. Your grandfather seemed to have a way of making the headlines as with the incidents of the mule on the hood of his car and of the owl. Great stuff! Admirable story-telling style. judiverse

Ha-ha, your grandfather is indeed unique. Three times in the news would make him a celebrity in his hometown. This is hilarious, though it must be very upsetting to your grandma. Thanks, Bill, for sharing these incidents.

I enjoyed your story. It kept my attention and was funny too. I'm new to the South, so I'm happy to read what I can and learn about the rich history and happenings of my new home. (I'm in South Carolina).

I did notice a sentence that didn't quite flow the way it should.( This may be because its me.} Anyway, you might want to take a look at '. In 1960 rural Georgia they were still in wide use for agriculture. In any event, Grandpa didn't see this particular mule either.'

Take care, Charlene

I absolutely loved this, Bill. I am here all on my own this evening (Gav is out gigging!) and laughing out loud, wishing there was someone I could nudge and say, "Come and read this." What wonderful stories, and how marvellously you have told them.
That was some headline writer. What wonderful phrases he/she used.
I can't tell you all the places that made me laugh, but the image of the mule on the hood and mules not being seen that often, was just hilarious. And my vision of that huge owl coming to life in Grandma's car. Wonderful stuff. I am going to have to bookmark this one and show it to Gav tomorrow.
Thanks so much for this lovely story.
Sal x

I am laughing out loud. Your brother doesn't have a clue what he's missing. I remember sitting listening to the boxing matches on the radio with my Grandpa. Usually an extremely patient man, he didn't enjoy my many questions during his boxing matching.

Very nicely written. Your voice captures the times and the place quite well. I've been involved a few times with new stories. I've yet to read a report of something I knew first hand that was no exploitive.

Wow! I don't know what to say about your Grandpa, but I do feel sorry for your Grandma. She must have had the patience of a saint. And you never told us why his iced tea was in such a small glass with no ice. Great story about the week that was!
