What a great anecdotal story. What ten-year-old wouldn't have enjoyed a week of such unusual happenings. I could easily see this as an episode in one of my all time favorite shows, The Andy Griffith Show. While I am sorry for all your grandpa's misfortune, the retelling certainly made me laugh. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading and for the great feedback. I was recently in Mount Airy, North Carolina, which was the town that the Andy Griffth show was based on. What a hoot! Regards, Bill

Hi

I absolutely loved the three stories. Somehow I feel they are connected somehow. I must think on that a bit. The writing is clear and unencumbered. The impressions of a child is clear. There is also much reveled about life in a Southern town in 1860.

I am so glad that you shared your eventful times in 1960. I laughed at all the calamity and your Grandpa's streak of bad luck. Yes, your brother missed out on a lot and I bet you told him all about it! LOL This was such an entertaining read for me, I just had to grant it a six!

A fair recollection of the events that took place and funny as hell. Your grandfather must have been a really funny fellow. I can't begin to imagine such antics.

Hi G - I wish I could have included the story of how he broke the dog from chasing cars, but it didn't make the papers! Your visit brings a smile my way :) Bill

I loved this very well written story about your grandfather's monumental week. They say that disasters often come in threes, and this would appear to be an excellent example.I'm surprised there wasn't a fourth, when your grandmother found out about the damage done to her car! Well done. Alexis x

Wow! Your brother missed out. Truth is stranger than fiction. Three time to the hospital in one week. I love your writing style. It always feels like your telling on the front porch with a cold glass of sun ripe iced tea. Stan

What a great story! Your poor grandfather was probably very glad to see the end of the summer of 1960. I like the way you've used the first and last paragraphs as a framework for the entire story, Thanks for sharing. (My summer of 1960 was really dull!)
