Susan you are a very talented writer and you make the your stories come alive for your readers, but you have a very dark side. I know life's not a bed of roses, but so many of your stories are sad and depressing. I hope there is some happiness in your life and this is just your creative genus taking. This rating system will only let me give you a five.

Hi Beth! I'm sorry. I just write what I feel I guess. Deep down, I am vastly unhappy, so it does show a lot. Thank God for a place to vent and create. And thank God for kind friends. I am okay...just lots wrong in life right now Beth. Love, susan

Once again your descriptions are right on and your plot is well described. Your short story is full of emotion. I could feel the man's loniness.

Great, just great! You do an excellent job of creating both mood and atmosphere here - and the two blend beautifully, as when you mention the tears and the drizzle. I like the way you point out insignificant details that are anything but to the narrator - the lopsided seven, the toad-like phone. In his state of mind these things would stand out and be a source of even more depressing thoughts. Even the weather is dismal. Great ending, too.

Hi Fausto! Thank you! I'm glad you picked up on these things...and the man may make it too? I tried to leave it open, just a glimmer of hope. Thank you for this wonderful note my friend...wow! :D Susan

Hi Susan,
I can't believe I used all my sixes! This is a gut wrenching story that held me rapt throughout. Your excellent descriptions let me be a fly on the wall as I watched this poor soul. He has lost everything including himself. Excellent writing here! Blessings, chey

Whew well told and certainly an eye opener. The travesty of this man's life was beside itself. Wow, you really wrote a good one here.

Interesting. This well written story did not end the way I thought it was going to. I thought he might commit suicide.
Oh well. This is a truthful story about how things sometime are. Good job. JW

Hi Jonathon! OH GOOD! I tried to leave the ending open, a glimmer of hope? He could still make it...so, thanks for seeing it that way! VERY good! It's great to hear from you as always!! Susan

This is a super piece, my friend. You strong descriptions of the inner wokings of your character's mind can only have come from someone very familiar with the hopeless feelings you describe in vivid detail. This is a story that could easily be fleshed out should you choose. But, I think the length gives it a snapshot feel that works very well for me. Excellent writing, as usual, Susan. Hugs, Bev

Hi Bev! Thank you very much. I am too tired to do a long one right now...but someday! Hopefully. I'm lucky to do anything right now. Just glad you enjoyed this some! Smiles! Susan

This is a deeply moving and heart wrenching story. I felt a lot of 'been there, done that' while I was reading this. To feel so lost that nothing feels good but the warm booze, probably what started the downfall in the first place. This is a great story with all the detail you have become famous for. I do hope you are feeling better. I think about you every day.

Hi Sasha! How are you? Thank you for not only a kind and most welcome review...but for caring about me too. I'm a lucky gal to have you as a friend. I really am. I pulled something where the cut is in my guts...so have to go back for a check up. I hope they don't have to go back inside there. I'm hurting bad again tho. We'll see. SO sick of this! I'm sure glad to hear from you Smurphy. love, Susan

You're so right, Susan..
Life is hard, but then
the alternative is worse..
think of all that we would
leave behind.
How was hospital?
We are off to London by train tomorrow, to visit Richard (our middled son) for the day. He and his partner are cooking for us. Just hope the snow doesn't come heavy, as last year we had to leave the car down the bottom of the road for days.

Hi Margaret! Thank you so much! I hope your trip is going well! Or will go well! :) Sounds like you are getting Indiana's weather this year! We've been mild...but to me anything under 60 degrees is cold! So, I'm freezing even at 43! :) I pulled something loose where the operation took place...so having a lot more pain again. I am so SICK of this. Just constant pain. I don't know how much more I can stand. I hope you are doing better. Colin too. Please send my love to everyone?? I have NOT forgotten you my friend....xoxo. Susan

Hi Cookie! Thank you....Yes, I tried to convey the danger of alcohol...when someone can't stop drinking. I was lucky and never addicted to anything like that. Tho, now, I drink too many diet sodas every day. So, who knows. Seems nothing enjoyable is good for the human body. Sad! Thank you! Cookie, this is a great review! HUG! Susan
