An excellent journey you just took me on, and I read with delight this chapter (revised). I did not need to read the first to chapters to get the gist of the storyline, nor did I need a vivid imagination to feel Suzie's fear, and ultimately, her relief. Fascinating subject, even though it is not the actual bear attack. This easy to read story stood alone as a great read.
Well done. A couple of suggestions
off of "of" not needed
"Shemya house" should be Shemya's house
"winter through"
perhaps to help it through winter in hibernation

this seems very reminiscent of the problems we face over here with "boy racers" who put everybodies life inperil as they blatantly break all the rule of driving
