This is a beautiful, very well-written piece. Your grammar and punctuation is very good; I only found a few errors:
There should be no commas before and after Catherine, unless Catherine is the only friend you have (which I doubt); 'carefully intended' does not take a hyphen (because of the adverb); 'She then spoke' does not take punctuation. Very nicely done, moving story.

Writingfundimension:

What a great way to say good-bye to such a majestic
animal. George had an advantage people don't get --
he had his funeral while he was still alive.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Jan. Catherine is a very special lady. She gives from the heart without holding back. I'm glad you picked up on that. The day was very difficult for her, but she carried it off with real panache. Thanks again for your support, my friend. Love, Bev

The story was told with great sensitivity and was very engaging. I thought the part about how Catherine was kept from commiting suicide over who would care for George was very touching. The final hours of George were told nicely, refraining from the obvious impulse for tear-jerking melodrama. Beautiful prose, clean and lean, just what I like. Didn't have a six, but I'm sure you'll get your share.luof

Excellent story. Your opening is strong and draws the reader in immediately.

Naturally, my first thought was how could you 'meet' someone at their own wake?

It is a story of the truest love and courage. Only true love enables us to part with those dearest to us.

Look forward to reading more

What a wonderful story. I've always loved horses and your parting image in particular just touched me deeply. Animals do have a way of sensing things. Thank you for sharing your story.

This is such a lovely piece you have written here! It deserves a six but I'm all out! I love horses, I love all animals. This really tugged at my heart, it is so amazing how animals can love so much. Great job!

Wow, Bev! What a great story about a horse named George. I think animals are smarter than we think they are. I love the way you told this story. Horses are so big and powerful; I've always been a little fearful of them. However, I'm sure if I'd been raised around them, I would not feel this way. The first time I ever got on the back of a horse was when I was fourteen. The neighbor boy wanted me ride the horse bareback with him. I must say I didn't stay on it very long. I fell off and was completely embarrassed.

Hi, April. I know exactly how you feel about riding horses. Though I am not an owner or rider of horses, they never cease to take my breath away for their beauty and power. Thanks, my friend for this wonderful and touching review. I appreciate the support. Blessings, Bev

We need animals in our lives probably more than they need us. Your friend's kindness to George was returned many times over, and she did him a final kindness in the end even though it broke her heart. Well written, Bev. :) Nancy

Hi Bev,

This is a beautiful story about George the horse and I wish I had a six for you. We used to have horses but had to give them up when my husband could no longer hunt. It was a wonderful thing Catherine did for George and I hope it helped her grieve less. Your good writing skills are apparent in every line of this story....blessings, chey
