This is a well written and heartwarming story. I truly enjoyed the read.

These things:

Patches (knickered=nickered?) in the distance, and for days afterwards refused to eat.

Catherine and I cried as she told me the story of how Patches stood there (motion(l)ess for a long time

Oh dear. This made me cry. What a sad tale, yet I'm happy the old guy had a wonderful home for the last few years of his life. I love horses, and used to ride often. They are one of the most beautiful creatures, and the history of mankind has been carried on their backs. You made George sound so special, and I think it's fantastic that you made a connection with him. A lovely tale, Bev. Thank you for sharing. Hugs, Av.

This was a story that filled heart and brightened soul.
To love so much and to care so deeply for each other was beautifully showcased in your story. I love horses, my children (my girls) loved riding and caring for their horses. They are such gentle giants when completely understood between rider and horse.

I enjoyed reading this work. It brought tears but also a sense of joy for his release from pain. I think that must have been the most endearing celebration of life I have heard of.
Thank you for sharing.
Maureen

Thank you for this outstanding review, Maureen. You are lucky to be comfortable around horses and to own some. I'm really in love with their beauty and mystique. I plan to write more about horses from a different perspective at some point in time. I really appreciate your time and words of support, my dear friend. Warmest regards, Bev

A beautiful story about a beautiful spirit. Many animals have been their owners savior, either directly or, as is the case with Catherine and George, indirectly. This story underscores the importance animals have in our everyday lives. A good story.

I love horses as well. For sure they have an insightful way, they connect with humans so well, a carrot will make them happy. I enjoyed your story, and feel in my bones he is at great peace.

What a nice story and I too have always admired horses and I have a certain awe for them. They are beautiful creatures and are really awesome. It would be hard to loose a beloved pet of any kind. Good story and good job.

I don't know if I can write through the tears. How well you have captures the tender love that so many shared for George. And yes, sometimes the animals that we have around us do keep us alive, and they do love us unconditionally. They trust us just as George did Catherine to do what's right for them in the end. She kept him from suffering any longer. Putting a dear friend down is a most difficult thing to do.
Animal friends never forget one another. Patches standing over George's grave is when I really began to cry. They bond in a way that we humans don't. A way without words. A true experiencing of nature itself. They were soldiers in the field for many years. I love the way you see them as comrades. Patched knew his friend was sick. They know when one of them is near death.
He stood over his comrade's tomb.Marvelous tribute!

I am so upset that I don't have six this late in the week.
You deserve one ... many for this well penned piece.

You're quite a talent to be able to put such emotion on the page which translated to me. It was vivid. You didn't just say my friend had a horse named George, he was sick and we had a nice get together for him. There was another horse who when it was all over for some reason came and stood by the grave. Some would have been that bland ... a report. Yours was an experience.

Second time today I've a good cry about an animal that died. I read one earlier about the loss of a dog. A beautiful tribute that they had for the horse. You described it very well. The last paragraph describing how Patches stood over where George had been buried. Great work! judi
