Well as much as I would prefer a nice funny on the farm essay about how your pig ate the back door or something. You are so right to tell us to be of good care for your ladies up there. I hate them very much when they sqeeze, pinch and then make you hold your breath. Oh well, we'll get over it. Thanks.

Hi Writingfundimension

Very good and sound advice to both men and women. One thing that should be added is that the use of anti-perspirants may be directly related to the increase since the armpits and the pubic area are the two places where the body sheds toxins in perspiration. Blocking that in the armpits means that the toxins are not released and are stored in the fatty tissues of the breasts ...

There are alternatives and you don't have to walk around with smelly pits!

You are absolutely correct, Patrick. I know that we are asked to avoid said items before having the mammogram. Are you saying here that they have also been linked to causing breast/axillary masses? If so, I'd be very interested in where to get that information. I love helpful reviews! Warm regards, Bev

My wife read about this some years ago here in Germany. We use a perfumeless Alum based deodorant which is a crystal stick formulation as a deodorant and it is very effective, though sometimes does need further applications during the day. I'm sure if you searched online it would turn up information on the affects of anti-perspirants in the medical papers somewhere.

My wife did a Google search and came up with something on the UK Cancer Research site which says this is not an issue, but she's sure she's seen something else about it as well. http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/healthyliving/cancercontroversies/deodorants/

Thanks, Patrick. She may be remembering when there was a big push to remove aluminum from anti-perspirants which I believe is now mandatory in the U.S. But I will certainly be checking out her information and hope you will thank her for me. Bev

I think the natural deodorants from health food stores is a wonderful idea and, though, they may need re-application are definitely worth considering for many reasons. Thanks, Patrick.

A very infromative piece that was also very humorous despite the seriousness of the subject. I would add too that if you doctor tells you that it's a fatty lump and not to worry, get a second opion. My ex lost both breast because, a supposed fat lump eventually turned into cancer. Great essay that teaches and entertains.

Your article is very well written, Bev, and it provides for some very good advice for readers. However, you must not ignore that even though it is rare, men sometimes get breast cancer, as well. Therefore, should at least self-test themselves on a occasional basis. JW

a good article with loads of worth of advice for women.the writer started with interesting event of her life..i.e her first date with her husband and then slowly takes the readers with her towards a disease which scares every woman.this dreadful disease has taken number of lives particularly in developing words.life is very precious ..no one wants to die .a ray of hope glints in the eyes of even those who are taking last breath.one should take precautionary measure to keep oneself strong and healthy.because prevention is better than cure .also it is imperative for all women to have mammography

Hi, jasmine. Thank you for your awesome review and support for the post. Prevention is possible with breast cancer in the vast majority of cases. I think that folks still believe that every cyst or lump means cancer and it does not. Thanks for offering your personal insights to the information. Most appreciated! Bev

I liked this story on so many levels. First, the humor that you laced into a very serious subject, was refreshing. Plus, you cited very good facts to validate your story and everyone needs a little reminder now and then to do these things, and you explained that, as well.
Good job. I liken a mammogram to getting your tit stuck in a wringer, but that's a whole 'nother story!

Hi, Linda. Oh, yeah, that's a good way to put it - tit in a wringer! I sure appreciate your awesome review and the supportive insights. Blessings, Bev

Hehe...middle-aged spread...have not heard it said that way before. Very cute.

Despite the seriousness of the topic, I thought you did a really good job making it 'human'. Touches of humor mixed with technical data and gentle warnings served to create a well-rounded essay.

Thanks for sharing on this important topic.

Thank you for a brilliantly informative post. I am so in agreement with you and have yearly mammogram after finding a cyst in my left breast several years ago. Having the cyst removed was less painful than the mammogram. Boobs are only cosmetic in areas of concern at the risk of getting cancer. I check my breasts every time I shower, and would advise everyone else to do the same. Thank you for researching the plight of the biggest killer known to woman. Net:)

Sounds like you do everything right, thebluestar. Good for you! I wish that more folks realized that the vast majority of lumps in the breast end up being non-cancerous. And, yes, it's nerve-wracking, as you well know, to wait to get the diagnosis on a lesion that's been removed; but the alternative is not worth considering. A little discomfort is nothing compared to the ravages of radiology or chemotherapy - not to mention surgery. I so appreciate your sharing your personal insight and your splendid review. Thanks so much for stopping by! Warm regards, Bev

Bev - Even though I have very little common ground to relate too, I loved your post. Well written and hopefully will get some folks at least thinking. Well done. Bill

Hi, Bill. I would like to gently point out that breast cancer is on the rise for men. So, routine breast examination are recommended for men, too. Thanks for stopping by and for your superb review. I really appreciate it! Warm regards, Bev
