Okay, I have to ask. When I've had a mammogram, they clamped my breasts between two slabs of x-ray plates and tried to squeeze them flat. How can they get a man's flat breast between those plates?

I've never seen one done, though I ordered one for a patient through the surgeon I worked for. They're probably able to make accomodations for all kinds of situations - even breasts with implants. In some cases, they may use another x-ray type. That's an excellent question. Thanks for stopping by, Roberta. Warm regards, Bev

I hope that this is posted elsewhere rather than just here at Fanstory.
Apart from it being informative, it also takes the sting out of the discussion of cancer. Not that I am at all suggesting cancer is comical, I do think that talking about it with fear and loathing only causes fear in other people and so the cycle continues.
In this piece you managed to stay light hearted about a serious subject and managed to get 'Boobs'into an informative piece.
I'd share a joke, but probably inappropriate.
Well done

What a good short work! I especially like the part saying
And the result of all this torture for women with big boobs? A less than perfect picture due to the dense nature of copious breast tissue. In other words, they can't see all that's in there due to the fact my breasts are TOO FAT.
It is really interesting and useful.
Thank you for reading.

No shit! I'm going to drop a couple of hundred bucks today for you to confirm that my breast tissue feels like bubble wrap that I can't pop?!/Great stretch of internal dialogue.----mammogram might be preferable to the sensory replication of lying motionless in the middle of a construction site./In my neck of the palms-Florida, my SO (who faints in tunnels) had her MRI done in what they call an open MRI. Call around your area to see if they exist there.----This is a great store of info for women. Some that I have known over the years did not take BC exams seriously. Your piece ought to shake a few apples from some trees. Well composed.

Hello, my friend. Thanks for the advice, Axel. I live in a small community, though we have extremely good health care - so my options are limited. I've had two MRI's now and I just know what to expect. But, doctors can and should offer sedation to people with extreme claustrophobia. They rarely do and I think it's just out of laziness on their part. Truly, it's the noise that got to me the most. Thanks for your excellent review and, always, interesting sidebars. Warmest regards, Bev

Best way to avoid MRIs. Stay healthy. Don't we wish. Axel
P.S. Be on the lookout for my book, Someday My Turkey Will Fly, that I will post in a few days.

Okay, I look forward to it - what an intriguing title! Xxx Bev

Hello, kleck140. Thank you so much for your great review! And congratulations on your continued good health. I sure appreciate you stopping by to offer your insights. Blessings, Bev

I did not take chemo or radiation, instead I went with IP6 which is the mineral Inositol and have been cancer free for almost 14 years. I still take Inositol and avoid medications. Thanks for sharing.

What an accomplishment, kleck. Sounds like you had access to some forward thinking medical folks. Glad you're with us and I look forward to reading some of your work. Warm regards, Bev
-
It wasn't the medical folks...it was by the grace of God, I walked through the book section of the local Fleet Farm store and saw a book "IP6 for Cancer" bought the book. Read the first part which was all medical terms. The IP6 was patented by two Doctors of Green Bay WI and had over 229 people cancer free for over ten years. I said if it worked for them, it will work for me too. And that was how it all happened for the best of health for me. Thanks for carin.

Thank you for your information on mammograms and the use of MRI's. This past October I went for my mammogram they said my breast were dense. I had calcification..To make a long story short I have stage 1 breast cancer. I am getting ready for my second surgery. This time they are checking my lymph nodes to see if the cancer spread. I am so grateful that I got that mammogram when I did. I decided that the discomfort from the mammogram was better than not knowing and ending up with stage 4. I have been spreading the word get your mammograms on time do self examinations monthly. You see many years ago my grandmother died at age 36 with breast cancer. The war is on... Working together we can one day stamp out breast cancer forever....Deorre

Dear, Deorre. I wish you all the very best as you face your second surgery. The procedures for treatment of breast cancer are so much better than they were when I worked for a surgeon 35 years ago - it may be hard to comprehend, but chemotherapy was a rare treatment and not readily available. The only surgery done back then was a radical mastectomy. I know it doesn't make your situation any easier and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for adding your personal and poignant story to the many wonderful responses I've received to this write. You are a real hero, my friend. And I cannot thank you enough for your beautiful and very generous review. Blessings, Bev

Breast cancer, what can be said. More devastating than some other forms of cancer. My two exes were always amazed with my diligence with getting those mammograms done. They both remarked about how gentle I was with handling their breasts. No roughness from me.
This is a great piece of informative writing. Even as a man, I urge women to get those check ups. Better to be safe than sorry.
My bane is prostate cancer for the second time in seven years. Just biding my time.,,,,,,Jim

Hi, Jusstuf. Prostate cancer used to be a rare disease. Along with so many other forms of cancer, it's on the rise. And you raise a point - and I hope I am correct here - that if a woman doesn't want to do her own breast self-examination, it's really okay to let a loved one do it for you. Thanks for sharing your personal perspective and supporting this write. And good luck with your own cancer situation, Jim. I hope you have someone who is as supportive for you as you were to your former wives. Kind regards, Bev

bev, they both were DD's and dreaded those mommos. i wouldn't like if something was squashing a sensitive part. I always would help them to check for things that shouldn't be there. and as for me, i've been going it alone. treatments and the emotional highs and lows. I would not know how to react to have someone there. Jim
-
Well, Jim. I would be happy to lend an ear any time - just P.M. me. No one should face your kind of pain alone. Take care, my friend. Bev

Okay, now I'm well educated about this. A very informative and serious topic for women, and now, males. It's never too late to be safe--as my grandmother use to tell us, better safe than sorry. Well written my friend.
