Great work on this essay you are correct mammograms hurt like hell and self exams well I didn't do a good job with them I'm regretting it now but at least they caught it in time. Catching it early is the key like it or not it is something we have to do. Great work on this essay your message is something that can't be said enough cancer is a wicked beast that cares not your status or creed. Thanks for sharing it was a pleasure

Hi, Tammy. I am so relieved to hear that your cancer was caught in time. I can remember when I worked for a surgeon in the 1970's when so many women came in too late. And there was no chemotherapy back then or radiation treatment. The only treatment was radical mastectomy and that was a horror for the patient and physician. We are fortunate to live in much more enlightened times and I am glad you found good treatment. Thanks so much for your very generous and supportive review. I am honored! Warm regards, Bev

Your story is thoughtful, well written and hilarious. As one who loves to read and write humor, several parts of your take on this very serious subject made me laugh out loud.

As for suggestions and the like, grammatically and technically it appears clean. Thank you for sharing! --Tamara

Hi Writingfundimension,

Quite a humorous take on mammograms! The best way to approach them. I have one tiny breast (I had breast cancer) & I gotta tell ya, it hurts like hell to get that little bit of tissue where they can see it!!

I find the info about doing an MRI quite interesting. Of course, as I have a pacemaker, I couldn't get one. It'd be like the alien coming out of my chest! LOL

Great story! Thanks for sharing it with us!!

smiles,

deb

Hi, deb. Thanks for this very endearing review. You sound like an awesome lady! And the examination can be difficult and less then ideal for small breasted women as well as those with larger breasts as you point out so well. I really appreciate your reading the essay and offering your poingnant perspective. Warm regards, Bev

A very informativ essay that is difficult to ignore. large Breasts are very spell binding ticklish to fingers and should be taken care of so that overall health is taken care of too. it is good to learn that breast cancer can be prevented by very advanced techniques that detect hints of development.

good flow and grammar, among others liked; dense nature of copious breast tissue

lax about doing this

- lying motionless in the middle of a construction site.
That's exactly how it sounds. It's not very comfortable.

Thanks for the article. You have some very good information. I have the opposite of your problem - too small for the mammogram.

Self-examinations are scary but you're right, so it goes on my 2012 resolutions list

Bev, the amusing light touch here effectively draws readers into some really helpful information about breast cancer. I am a ten-year survivor myself, with a mammogram to thank for discovering my tumor while it was very small and curable, before it could be felt even by self examination. Breast cancer has been a plague in our family. My mother, sister (twice) and three aunts all had it, and all eventually died of something else. Youngest and most tragic was my daughter Mary, who died from it in her thirties. I have one remaining daughter, Amy, and you can bet she is diligent about mammograms (twice a year), self-examination, and frequent exams by doctors and breast specialists. I hope and pray the plague has been stopped short of her. Thank you for the giving nature that prompts you to write such a helpful piece. Love, Jeanie

Dear Jeanie. Your review makes the writing of the piece all worthwhile for me. You have shown through your words and the deadly statistics for your family, why this is something that can't be put off. As you probably can attest to, the mammogram equipment is immensely more sensitive than ever and there are other options if they don't work for small-breasted women. Now with genetic marking, there's even another option available. Under your guardianship, Amy's chances are even higher that she will avoid the disease. As is so often the case, your review has touched me deeply, beautiful lady. Love to you, Bev

Bev, your opening paragraph is hilarious...I needed a giggle! LOL! I had several lumps a few years ago...they were benign cysts, caused by too much caffiene or so I was told. Now, well, it's a kidney stent, upcoming exploratory surgery, and on and on. It just never ends....I am glad you are okay. Thank you for this thoughtful post...good work! :) xoxo, Susan

Dear Susan. You make an excellent point about caffeine. Though, it's not publicized as it once was, yet another reason to avoid too much caffeine is the link to breast cysts. I hope your surgery goes well, my friend and that you have a quick rebound. Those abdominal incisions can be a bear...so I'm sure you'll take it easy coming back. Oh, and thanks a bunch for your excellelnt review! Love, Bev
