Excellent essay here about breast check-ups. I was rarely doing self exams because I kept thinking I was finding stuff. I have also heard about the MRIs and had a feeling cost would play a role how often they were done. Thanks for an imformative article.

Ilove both the title and the subject matter of this piece. I have only a couple of grammatical things to point out: There is no apostrophe in MRIs (it's a plural). I believe widespread does not take a hyphen. Ditto for generally recommended (because of the adverb). I don't believe that doctor's is to be capitalized. Very nice work!

Hello Writingfundimension

this is a well written piece about an on going problem, the availability of the proper tests for large breasted women. You should submit your article to several women's magazines and see where it goes many of them are always looking for articles just like this. It is the right length. For most publications.
Good luck
Penny

Thanks so much, Penny. I appreciate your support for the essay and your generous review. And, how kind of you to suggest seeking a wider audience. Several others have made the suggestion, so maybe I should pay attention LOL. Warm regards, Bev

All good advice. The writing was concise and clear and even had a hint of humor in there, essential when dealing with such things.

Hi Bev,

You have written an important essay on how to take care of your breasts and you are so right. Early detection is the best way to go and will lead to a cure. I worked in the medical field for many years and in the early years almost everyone died of breast cancer when it wasn't detected early. What is a little squeezing and flattening compared to the treatment of breast cancer? Also men too are afflicted with this disease. You have done a superb job in writing this....blessings, chey

Hi, chey. I bet we worked during the same period of time because I recall the same situation. And chemotherapy was not even available - relatively new and unexplored. Thanks for your wonderful review and support for the essay, my friend. Good to hear from you. Warm regards, Bev

since I retired from my job at the hospital I volunteer in the hospital's radiation oncology unit. I am a cancer survivor and it pleases me to see so many women with breast cancer go away cured...

What a generous thing for you to do, chey. Some women would avoid anything medical after your kind of experience. Ciao, Bev

You write really well. I admit, I am not a 'regular' viewer of your stuff, but am fairly new on this site as well. My time for being on the computer is really limited, much to my dismay. I was very relieved to get through the entire essay and NOT discover that you'd been diagnosed with breast cancer, which was what i suspected when I read the note under the title. Whew! You have reminded me how fortunate we are in Canada to have a health care system which doesn't charge $100 for a mammogram, so I have one every year without ever opening my wallet. I think you should/could add much more of your personal insights and humorous comments to this essay! You've given so much good advice and info, but I'd like to hear more of your own take on things. Your writing is easy to read, personable and realistic. PR

Wow! Thank you, I have yet to have a mammogram (I am 51) and am probably in the number who fear this procedure but I would have an MRI. Thank you for providing this information and sharing your journey.

You are so very welcome, stanza. I hope that you will discuss this with your physician. If it's not a viable option, there are other alternatives to mammography. Thank you for reading my essay and for your wonderful review. Mammograms have found small lesions on three different occasions for me. All of them turned okay due to the very early nature of finding them. Good luck and God speed! Bev

This is a very well written piece filled with humor, insight, and good advise. On the medical side. Wow - annual mammogram in my area cost $2700.00. Maybe I should check the cost of the MRI.

Hi, purrfect tale. I am fortunate to have insurance, so my out-of-pocket expense is minimal. But you may qualify for assistance with them, particularly if there is a family history of breast cancer. I would try the local Health Department for information on that. Good luck and thanks so much for your very generous review. Blessings, Bev

Thank you for going through the trouble to write and post this. Breast cancer in women effects men to a similar degree. And your admonission for men to examine themselves is well advised, too.
Nice job blending the humor with the 'serious'. I suspect many more readers got the point because of you humorous, somewhat self-deprecating approach.
Good job.

Peace, Lee

Thank you so much, Lee. The emotional toll of breast cancer is devastating for the spouse or loved ones, as you so wisely point out. Thank you for your excellent review and supportive insights. I much appreciate it! Warm regards, Bev
