Your article has remember me; one of my mothers had one breast cut off and died of breast cancer. I wish she was alive to read this. The message in your work is strong, good and commendable. Keep the good campaign up. God bless you.

This piece has been very informative to me. I have a friend whose mom died of breast cancer because she never had mammograms or any breast examination done up until the small lump in her breast got big. It was sad because the time she decided to go in for a check was the time the doctor told her that she had a type of cancer that was spreading fast. And eventually, it got to her liver and kidneys. Her kidneys shut down and she needed to be hooked to a machine for dialysis. it's apparently a procedure that cleans your blood for you since the kidney can't do their work anymore. But then, the chemotherapy was too much for her, she got weak, and she died. Maybe we should find a way to let every woman know that we need to take care of ourselves too. We need to be aware of breast cancer and we need to have monthly self examination of our breasts and yearly mammograms once we're 30 years of age.

What a sad story you convey, anila. And more so because it could have been prevented. I'm sure that because of that lady, the women around her will not make the same mistake. Sometimes that's the only good thing to come out of a situation like you describe. Thank you for sharing. Bev

I thought this was well written, I didn't notice any mistakes. I liked the tone of the piece, light enough to be entertaining, while being technical enough to be taken seriously. A serious subject that I am afraid enough women don't take to heart.

Thank you much, Scornwell. I'm honored by your words of support and excellent review. It's beyond sad that we lose women to something that can truly be prevented in most cases. Blessings, Bev

Well done, girl. Very timely since I also have dense breast tissue and I'm due for a mammogram this month. As a matter of fact I just went through my note books to find the notes I had made on MRI's for fibrocystic breasts. Glad I had a chance to read this. Great information, very well and clearly delivered. Thanks, Bev. Generous of you to share.

Hi, Adrienne. Thank you for the awesome review. I really appreciate you taking time to read essay and offer your personal insights. It's been a great experience for me to receive so many wonderful personal stories. There's a fair number of women who've experienced breast masses, even cancer. We truly are a sisterhood! Love, Bev

Breast cancer runs VERY strongly in my family and I recently tested positive for BRCA2 gene. Now I get a mammogram, MRI, and ultrasound every year. Your essay is thoughtful and informative, and a has an important message for all women.

Hi, gail. Your story is uplifting for me because you are prime example of how far we've come in detecting and treating breast cancer. I imagine it must have been a difficult decision to do the gene testing, but it sounds like you have enough respect for yourself to do whatever it takes to live a long life. Good for you! Thanks for your excellent review and for sharing your wonderful insight. Blessings, Bev

Hi, Gert. Thank you so much for your generous and supportive review. I am so very glad that you are one of the ladies who survived breast cancer as we are all benefitting by your hopeful story. Unfortunately, one of the beliefs that is the hardest to overcome is the idea that a diagnosis of breast cancer means automatic death or, for some even worse, mutilating surgery. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The statistics show that somewhere in the range of 90 percent of breast masses end up being benign. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by! Warm regards, Bev

What an excellent posting! I think that a lot of us women (myself included!) do keep our head in the sand with regard to the self examination thing. My late husband found a lump in one of my breasts when I was 27 (many moons ago!) and I do remember the anxieties of waiting for results from the mama gramme (so empathise with your comments regarding us double d'ers!) As it turned out, it was nothing, but we should thank God that modern science at least supports us in this way. Thank you so much for reminding us all!

Thank you, alexis, for adding your own elegant wisdom to the essay. I appreciate your sharing your thoughts as they are very important. I agree it's agony to wait to hear a diagnosis when a biopsy is done, but most of them time they turn out benign. The alternative is too horrible to consider. And you are absolutely right on about today'ss technology - sensitive and thorough. Thanks again for the marvelous review, my friend. Blessings, Bev
