Hi Bev,
BRAVO! for being brave enough to post this straight forward, informative and yes, even humorous article about the risks of breast cancer and the need to perform self exams as well as obtain the dreaded mammogram. After my order of 2010 with prostate cancer, I take every opportunity to help men understand the real issues of testing, not playing with numbers or become a victim of 'magical thinking'.
When I began the read I was fearful it was your way of telling us you had breast cancer. I'm so very glad this is not the case.
An excellent article and one that is always timely.

Hi, Ray. I am so humbled by your personal support for my write and your extreme generosity. You make an excellent point, breast cancer is becoming more prevalent in men. When I worked for the surgeon for twenty five years, we saw only one case of male breast cancer in that entire time period. And it was caught too late. You're so sweet to worry that I was delivering bad news. I am truly moved by your review, my friend. Warmest regards, Bev

You're most welcome, my friend. :)

Thank you for sharing this story with me. As another 'large-breasted' woman I can empathize with much of your experience. It was also informative as I didn't know that calcifications could be removed before they became dangerous. That mammogram machine must have been invented by a man - small breasted women sometimes say they feel now discomfort. I loved your use of metaphors and the spirit of optimism that permeates this story. Having recently been in hospital for cancer I can understand the way our security is threatened by this experience. Great story!

Excellent piece that really catches your attention right from the start. Serious subject, but I laughed at the similes. Loved the way you describe a mammogram and your breast tissue. Message is clearly stated with helpful info for those who procrastinate.

"the shape of a crepe"--love the alliteration!
Having just had to undergo two mammograms in the last year, I see where you're coming from. Only a recurring cyst, thank heavens.
Just had an MRI too. No thanks. You have to lie perfectly still for about 15 minutes on a NARROW table while gongs and machinegun fire slams into your head.
One thing to know about cysts: they can fill and empty on their own, but they're harmless.
Excellent essay and very well written. Even this grammarian couldn't find a thing to suggest.

How wonderful for your mother, sweet. I'm sure you get the drill everytime you go to the Doctor due to her cancer. I really appreciate your Great Review! Warm regards, Bev

Well, let's hope this is the year you decide to take care of both, sweet. Though I understand the underlying fear you must experience with your mother's history. Take care, Bev

Thank you for posting this, Bev. It is such an important exam, not a pleasant one but one that is so necessary. I love how how you interject some humor into this--sometimes we have to have a little humor to get us through things, like unpleasant exams. I did not find a single SPAG in this whole thing, so good for you! Thank you again for sharing this very fine piece. Hugs, Connie

Hiya, Connie. Thanks for your splendid review, my friend. I so appreciate the support and your personal insights. I'm allowed to go every two years between my mammograms, but to tell you the truth, I'm not totally okay with that given my close calls. But the insurance Gods reign supreme. Love ya lots, Bev
