Hi Margaret! I have had three foals born over the years, by mares we had. Each baby was so special...SO onery after a few weeks old! They do get up really fast, but if they don't they can die...once we had one born and it slid beneath the stall gate, and we just got her into the stall with mama in the nick of time! I had been watching the mare all night. And gave up at 3 am...then at 6! THERE was the foal! She deliberately waited me out. They really don't like humans around. Most of them. I'm thrilled that you liked this Margaret. I've so much to write about, and feel I have little time. Paranoid I guess. I hope. Happy 2012~ HUG! Susan
