I admire you Barbara for even stepping out of your comfort zone to write poetry and I think you did a great job of it. You see I can not write a novel. Well to tell you the truth I never tried to write a novel let alone anything other than poetry and short articles. I also admire you for your strength and your love of mankind. I too met some wonderful people here and have never stopped feeling the love and compassion of the writers in this site.
I too pray for a better year for all of us and knowing it is only a couple more hours to kiss this year good-bye it will be one I really will be sending off with a kiss:)
Happy New Year to you and the family and now I need to start reading your novels as well as your poetry.

You've written this great prose-poem-essay hybrid from the heart. You'd do mighty find with free verse or prose. If you allow the poem to engulf you and write from your soul then you can write poetry. Don't let some yahoos review knock you down. It's not like you're doing structured poetry like an Octogram, Trolet, Haiku, Sentyu, Teractys, Naani, Nonet, Shadroma, Quantrain, lyrical verse, Odes, Tanka or any other structured form. Your novels are fabulous. I want you to try free verse. GO for it. I take exception what you wrote: Don't bash your poetry writing. I love you and this was a soulful write. I'd recommend this essay-proses-poem-ish to other readers. Write more romance stories in 2012. I bid you a fruitful New Years. BTW, Brian's art is wicked cool. Peace out...Melissa.

I think we all have our niche here and it sounds like you really enjoy romance writing. Poetry can be overwhelming at times but your poetry is enjoyable for me. I wish you well in the new year.

Yet, I agree that writing novels is more rewarding and even harder, because you've got to keep the intensity going for at least 300 pages instead of a couple of stanzas. I've even dabbled in a few, but my heart sings with the longer stuff. I'm getting close to posting my re-written second book, Someday My Turkey Will Fly, soon on FS.

I need to become a fan of your's. I am sure I will only be rewarded for it. Many lines of the first part of this poem are part reviews I received on my previous poem, Freedom Cost. To be honest, my feelings were hurt. I can handle constructive critism, but saying my lines read like a grocery list is not constructive, it's cruel. I appreciate your kind words.

You already are a fan of mine according to my fan list. What got me the most last year was when somebody who had joined that month gave me one star and said he didn't like my protagonist because he was a drunk. He must not have read further, because that was the point of the piece; dysfuntional to redemption. So it takes all kinds. I joined in 2007, but didn't post anything until 2009 after I'd recovered from prostate cancer. By now though, I know which wannabe writers to steer clear of. I partcularly enjoy reviewing your novel, because I've had some experience with misogynistic men before. Even though I was an alcoholic in my early years, I never hit a woman.

Your efforts and sentiments are certainly worth five stars, especially since they're spelled correctly and your punctuation is proper. Happy New Year to you, and by all means, do what your heart wants to. If it's romance novels, so be it. I personally am more moved by those than by poetry.

I think it was great that you spread your wings a bit and tried some poetry. I write poetry and still I am well out of league with all the styles and rules, meter and syllable counts. I prefer to write from my heart and allow what wants to flow to be birthed.
I'm not great at stories, sentence structure and all kinds of other stuff confuses me till I'm cross eyed....
But still I tried it....just like you tried poetry...
So anyways I just wanted to say I think its great that you tried whatever you wanted to try....
