I love the story. The story of another Butterball. He is such a good dog. HE helps his blind child. He waits for the food. That is hard. We humans have stomachs that growl and moths that drool long before the food is ready. I hope he got to stay in the kitchen. Good dog. Great story.

Yes, I enjoyed your short tale of a tail! I admired your taking on the persona of the dog and speaking in his voice and emphasizing his need to "be good," because it's his "job." I also particularly liked your "hand-fan" simile. Best wishes in the contest to us both. Your creative entry should do well. -Joan

Hi Joan! Wow...thank you for such an enthusiastic review. I am really happy you liked this...we did have a dog YEARS ago, named Butterball...he was so sweet...my story about Punkin was a true story, my brother has that little dog, and just loves her! She is NOT housebroken tho, hence, the giveaway, I'm sure!! Lol! Hugs!! Susan

I loved the playful tone of this, yet, it's serious side with the subtle hints at the child's possible problems and how this special dog takes his tasks so seriously. And tries to be so good. What a beautiful Christmas story. It's probably too late for this year because they select stories about 6 months out, but it would be a great Christmas story in a magazine. Wonderful story and beautifully written. Marcia :)

Hi Marcia! Thank you so much! Wouldn't that be fun for someone to publish our work? I wish! Oh well, it's fun to have fanfriends! I thank you again, the extra star is still a real thrill, even after three years!! HUG! Susan

This is a cute story. I love the perspective it was written from. You did a great job making it seem very realistic, at least from a dog's view. Good job! J.W.

This is a great little story. You really got into the mind of the dog and it is very creative. I like that you told it from his point of view. I hope this contest didn't have to be a poem because this should be a contender.

My dog is too good. She will wait until you tell her she can have something before she will eat it. Beagles are so willing to please their humans. I love this story and the double usage of the name Butterball. Most enjoyable. Good luck in the contest!!!Love you! Debbie

Hi Debbie! Awww, I had a beagle named Sally when I was little. She put up with me dressing her and pulling her around in my red wagon even...then! We took her to the county fair with sunglasses on. She was a saint...and for her trouble a neighbor ran over her one winter. She got out on the road and stuck in a deep tire rut and he couldn't stop. I sat with her in the basement til late at night...and she was gone in the morning...This memory was buried deep until your review...Thank you again sweet Debbie...Love you too, and I hope you don't live where there's too much snow. I am sick of it already... GAG! LOL! Suse

very nicely written. I love how you weave the theme of "good dog" through your story. I could totally picture this scene and it made my heart smile. Kathy

Hi Kathy! Thank you dear! I am thrilled you enjoyed this! It's great to hear from you, and please vote...not necessarily for me, there are lots of good ones here! I get so frustrated when lots of reviews come and few votes then?
reply by KathyH on 27-Nov-2011
I'll be sure to vote. I agree with you. Gotta vote to make these contests fun. Great job on this one. Very fun!

Oh, Suse, this a good one! You describe the dog's thoughts to a 't'. Love the part when he just had to go out side-but he didn't venture far. Those scraps he would enjoy were getting closer and closer. He is being good, but with a mighty effort.
A fun story told through the thought of 'Butter'. xxxSusan

HI Susan, Please forgive this late reply? I feel ill, going back to the dr. this morning...need to lay down a minute...but one reviewer was mad that I didn't reply, so I'm trying to do some...I appreciate every single review, good or bad. I just feel terrible and it wears me out just sitting here. I can write a story in minutes, but thanking people and reviewing for them takes time to do it right! Thank YOU again my dear friend...xoxo, susan

Working dogs are so valuable. Of course, I believe all dogs are valuable. I think my two are perfect for keeping my floor crumb free.
