I am terrified of spiders. I don't know why, but just thinking about them sends chills up my spine. Great story and I am so glad I read it while the sun was at its peak so I won't have to go to bed and try to sleep with one eye open...lol Great work with this one.

Me too Sasha! There's been a real invasion to this house too. There is a layer of gravel around the base and it houses , I'm sure, THOUSANDS of these d---n things. I have killed many over the past few weeks...INSIDE and out. I wanna MOVE already. Between these creeps dive bombing us with planes and spiders, well...who knows!? I am glad you read this early! Do sleep well! Thank you Smurphy! xx! Susan

Susan,
your horror and thriller fiction is splendidly written and creepy as hell. You've written wicked cool Halloween tale of a woman and her fear of spiders. Poor Gwyneth. The last lines were chilling: "And over a million strong, they would soon be masters of the house. Masters of their domain." Wow, you've managed to successfully establish a setting, conflict, and a resolution to your flash fiction story. I bet they get her one late at night and her pussy cat too. Heee Heee Hee. Keep on writing riveting stories, my talented friends. I'd recommend this scary story to other reviewers. It reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I hope you are doing fine, my friend. Please have a swell day.
Melissa.

OH LORD!! THIS IS GREAT! Between this and Trybucks review I am laughing til my guts hurt. I love it! Thank you sweet Melissa. HOW do you embed these? It's so neat! IF you get time, go to the essence poem contest and read "Blue Moon" and listen to Chris Issak! IT's neat and I know if it's not yours, you will love it! xoxo, susan

Hi Susan,
Oh, this is creepy!
How can you live in a place where the spiders are that big?
Great descriptions.
Interesting.
Suspenseful.
Good ending.
Great title for it too.

Well written story, Susan. We have an occasional spider. but it is bees and wasps which terrify me. The first time I had to kill a wasp, I seriously considered going to a hotel until I could get someone to kill it. I don't much care for bats either, but a big fish net works well to catch them and toss them outside. Picture a one legged woman in a wheelchair wielding a big fish net in a house with 10 foot ceilings-Hey thay sounds like a good idea for a story!!! Love ya, Debbie

Oh yeah, I like stories like this one that delve into our fears and deal with our human perceptions, our psych.. Another good coherent flow written in the somber tone that is all your own. Nice.

") I know, I remember we talked about them before!! We have killed dozens here, for some reason this house has a lot of them...big ones too, tho not as large as the ones in southern Indiana...I saw one there, in my mom's old homeplace, logcabin, now a party place, which really infuriates me. BUT, the wolf spider there was literally the size of my hand...I read where they live up to twenty years. I had NO idea! The one there hadn't been disturbed. I slept in my RX7 that night. Me and my dog, the first Buddy. But, thank you for being brave and reading this Margaret! This was based on how I act around the darn things. ")) LOL!! HUG! Susan

I love the way you establish Gwyneth's character in your opening paragraphs.
You certainly make her appreciation of cleanliness and her loathing of spiders crystal clear :-)
Excellent use of high-impact action verbs to make this scene come to life
OH, what a totally creepy ending - a million spiders on the march, all immune to insecticide - my skin is crawling :-) Brooke

Being one who is both deathly afraid of spiders and one who is also doing battle with them once again, I completely relate to this story. As much as I love the twist at the end, I fear your little story will have me having nightmares for quite some time - and it's not wolf spiders I'm dealing with, but rather Brown Recluse.
Good job!
