I like the theme of your well expressed sad poem and great work with the excellent lay out of each of your stanzas.

Grieving is a very personal thing. It is something we need to be very concience of. Sometimes we need to wait until they are ready for us to help, sometimes we need to be there to pick up the pieces.

Grieving is different for everyone, you are right when you said it has a life of it's own. I enjoyed reading your poem and I thought it was very cleverly written.

I've never really done great with anyone who just lost someone or is just having a bad day. I think it's a skill that you have to learn. I'm glad we have a friend like you

It is difficult to write about sadness. We feel it at all different levels and one description may not be understood by another.
I had trouble with the first two verses.(A verse starting at the left margin.)I could not understand the reference to 'the hope of New Years Eve and the grace of the Star of David'; and the reference to 'day 95'.
For me, this poem came alive; it sparkled in the next three verses. I felt the connection made, the grief shared at last-finally someone understands..., from dark, brightness...hope for the future.

Sparklers in her eyes ( like New Year's Eve fireworks signifying hope for a new year and the great light emanating from the Star of David under which Christ was born--our grace); day 95 was just a question as to how many days does it take for our grief to be over and for us to act alive again -- I hope this helps; thanks for reading -- love, jan

Jan-
Very nice. Being no kind of poet other than a poor one, I will just say that the words here manage to pack a big punch.
So many beautifully stated sentiments there that even a dolt like me can get it. Really nice.

I must admit, I did not write it for the contest -- looked to see if there was a contest it fit after I wrote it -- yes, Jenny, I know a fair amount about grief, too. love, jan

Grieving can destroy the soul. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for an easy read. There is excellent imagery.

Hello, jan.
You are absolutely right, and everyone grieves differently. The poem holds sadness, and the first stanza I found to be especially poignant. Love your choice of picture.
Warmly, Rebecca
