The first thing a new member needs to learn on this site is the art of humility and have an open mind. I have enjoyed your post in the past and am sure I will continue to do so. Your list of heroes are a partial list of mine. Well written and good luck in your contest.

And you are a brilliant writer who continuously posts brilliant stories and chapters. It's always an exciting and provocative read, but I trip in now and then and I didn't get in early enough into your novel to be captivated (like walking into a movie, halfway through) and so I'll likely be one of the end users, the grateful consumer that will drop ten or 15 dollars on Amazon so that I can savour the entire story.

I agree aboout new writers learning humility. It is with great amusement when I receive a chastising from someone who has been on site for a few weeks and hasn't even dried off their feathers. My favourite was a review of a story "Amy's Song" and a particular reader suggested that the language was childlike, something he would read to his eight year old sister.

Now considering this story was about alchohol abuse, depression, lost dreams and suicide I found the commentstickled my fancy. I looked up the profile and he'd been on site for three weeks. His posted works were neither bad nor brilliant, but he dove in like a storm trooper. I thanked him profusely and awarded him a nomination for reviewer of the month just to remind ME to stay humle. Thanks for stopping by. Ingrid

What a thoroughly genuine and thoughtful tribute to the cohort you are part of on Fan Story. You've managed to really describe the value that this virtual community provides to anyone who really wants to participate. Well done Kathy

"And, perhaps, I didn't want anyone to tell me the truth. Within my characters and my postings I was truthful, brutally honest. How hard is it, really, to spit reality on a blank page, read by strangers?"

I have found these words capture the most diffiuclt challenge I have had in writing which I now feel I have overcome. They are marvelous words.

Thank you for sponsoring this non-blind contest. I considered entering but knew I would bumble hugely in being honest and not being inclusive, so I passed. BUT, I enjoyed reading every post and am now off to vote.

Sue

You aee a brilliant writer, no worries, bumbling is hardly a word I would describe about your posts.
    lind,
I very deliberately did not make this blind, not because I wanted fans to come out of the wood wrok (anyone's) but rather so that I as a writer could post a tribute, people should know its me.

Quite frankly I really don't care who wins. I'm glad those that came on board had a chance to opine.

An excellent essay. I must say you started out a bit weak, but you finished with a roar. I was cheering for you by the time it was over. You definitely found your voice. You are obviously one of those people for whom writing comes easy when you are passionate. I'm so glad it does.

You have a gift. Thanks for using it here. Speaking of heroes...you might want to go ahead and be fitted for your own cape, my friend, after that performance.

Thanks for sharing

An interesting story of how becoming a member of Fanstory has changed your life. You speak of the inspiration you get when a writer has the ability to "transport me into my vulnerable past, lets me feel something I thought I'd forgotten; a truth I won't face, but I can read readily and award my highest compliment, a six star rating."

This is a great composition that I enjoyed reading.

Oh you,
Now I have to repost the edits, just in case your fan club checks in. I am humbled, and hope your article here is the post in People magazine that sends buyers out to look for our books. You have given me praise, I'm not certain I deserve, but you, personally have made me a better writer, and I am, geography, be damned, your friend.
Cheryl

--Interesting contest you've set up here. it'll be fun to see who's written about.
--"there is not a single writer, not a soul, who fulfilled their writing dreams in youth"
Presumptuous statement; how can you be so sure?
--"Good on them"
on, or for?
--"believing our unique perspective on life, our reflective emotional angst, sets us apart, but I'm not sure that is true."
I agree.
--"but I never believed anyone I was paying to give me an honest opinion"
Poignant statement.
--"people I have never, may never meet, who have willingly walked into my head space and allowed me to linger between their words."
Nice metaphoric expression.
--"although I may spend the money to buy a given author's book, depending on my notion of entertainment on that given day. I gravitated towards"
Fragment sentence in the fore part--revise.

A presumptious statement that might be, but I find it almost impossible to believe that someone who has achieved writing success would be hanging out at FS, except perhaps you.....

Good on them is a Canadian expression and I suppose because I've had so many comment I might as well change the words and be done with it.
reply by DIS-illusioned on 09-Jul-2011
Ha! For egoistic, narcissistic reasons, a highly achieved/accomplished writer might indeed decide to come into this small pond to further flap his/her big fins--just for kicks lol!

I made the changes as per your suggestions. Thanks for noting the issues.
