Hello barbara...
I congratulate you on having a name to send this to, and i wish you well. Sadly, I have no experience or training in query letters. I'd say this one grabbed me though!!!
Warmly, Rebecca

So that is what a query letter should look like! I've often wondered but since the chances of me being published was so thin, I never researched it. I might have to bookmark this for future reference! Thanks Barbara!

Not a problem. I am in the learning process myself. I have already changed the first paragraph three times since posting.

Good start. I sent you an email with further comments. Good luck. Query letters are hard to write. You are smart to get input on this. I'm sure it will help. Dan :))

Well, maybe I can find an agent with a sense of humor. Let's hope so. Thank you for your review.

Shoot, you probably know better than I if that's a good one.
I liked it. Said what needed to be said about your work.
My only concern would be to eliminate the personal information information in your letter. But that's me, a shy, private guy. Maybe publishers want that?

I am trying to figure this out myself. It seems they want information about us.
-
Huh, I always thought they wanted stuff neat, to the point, no fuss no muss, but it's been a long time. Still, the query is to the point, so I think it's fine.

Your query letter for a novel is good. You've described the book; told the agent why you have come to them; and expressed your qualifications for writing the book. On your final draft, just make sure you put the title of your book in italics, not in caps, and not highlighted.

I thought it was supposed to be bold. I will take care of that.
-
No, a title of a book should always be in italics.
-
I justed my two books on query's by Writer's Digest and the examples they use as good query letters have the book title in bold.
-
The New York Public Library Writer's Guide to Style and Usage says: Titles of books and other separately published literary works are usually set in italics. That's the way I learned it in school. Of course, they keep changing everything. So I would suggest you just do whatever you feel comfortable with. Good luck with your agent.
-
I don't have a clue what's correct. I was just following the form in the two books I have.
-
I will continue to put my book titles in italics because that's the way I learned it; the book I mentioned says that's the way to do it; and I think it looks so much neater. However, it sounds like you should be okay either way. If I were you, I'd try it both ways and see which looks more professional to you. Nice talking to you.

I really liked your dear Mr. So&so... This was a well written and very entertaining read. I didn't really know it was a letter until its ending. I just seen it was you that wrote it and I started to read, I didn't notice the title till I was done... John

Aha, Barbara, you've just reminded me of your book which I enjoyed reading very much. Sorry I cannot help you improve this query letter as it is already interesting and attractive to the person addressed to. You have done your research well, and this is it. In case this is a 'serious' query letter, I do hope it works and your book will be published!

I am not at the query stage of my writing so have not done any extensive reading or searching on the subject. However, I feel that you have described a very interesting story line with exciting characters in your query letter. Good luck in the reviews that you receive for this posting.

You describe your novel in a very intriguing way, which I think, would pique the interest of the person to whom you are writing. Good job!

Barbara, It is a good query letter. You sail through the plot, bringing out areas of tension that should attract an agent, and you show yourself well versed in the Romance market as a reader. You tell of your own qualifications to write the novel you have written.
Sometimes, if there is another SUCCESSFUL novel it resembles, that can help. But this letter is right on. I wish you the best of luck. I hope you're sending to many agents.
