Thank you Brooke. But I keep struggling with the words passed and past and when I looked them both up, it said that passed meant to extend or go beyond. And past meant, from behind or something that was over, done with. Can you help me here? So, I felt the one I wanted was "passed" which meant to get beyond the guard and into the room. Brooke "HELP!"

passed is the past tense of pass - so you use it as a verb
He passed by the window.
He passed her the potatoes.
He passed on ten years ago.
He passed the tests back to the students.
Examples of past:
The dementia patient lives in the past.
He remembers his past lives, or so he claims
She regretted the mistakes in her past.
She wonders what exists past the horizon.

I'm not a big fan of this particular genre. But this particular chapter had power, imagery, pace, edgy conflict. The writing rocked me. One thing: her month, should be 'mouth.' Sizzling writ. Stan

I love this it has good imagination and it is believable.

It's good supernatural/urban/fantasy adventure.
Pity the villains aren't the good guys. Reading a book where Hernan Cortez is portrayed with only his bad side showing. He had many stirling virtues and he made history . . . ahhh well, I digress. Terrible habit.
I could see this on display at Border's or Barnes and Noble.
