No poet or writer likes to see his work unfinished. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for an easy read. There is very good imagery.

What a horrible/beautiful poem. With blood flowing and death it was difficult to read at first, then the masterpiece was produced only to have it burn up. You are very creative and your poem is well written. People need to be shocked once in awhile.

This is very well done. You do an excellent job of integrating the poet's language into this piece; something complex that you made flow smoothly. Great twist on the ending, sad, of course, for the poet.

Ouch! The bitter irony of that conclusion. These quatrains are wonderfully done, and tell a very interesting and sad story. Bravo for really exceptional work.

I like the use of tools of the trade in the poem and getting inside the poet's head. The thoughts are clear and well defined. It is a tragic tale. All that work gone up in smoke. Good luck with the contest. ann

I was merrily reading along, enjoying the words, rhyme and easy flow. Then came the end which gave me a start. Our poor poet who struggles to write his last poem only to have it go up in smoke! You have chosen excellent words and the ab/ab rhyme is musical. Well done and good luck in the contest. chey

Thank you - nothing like shocking the reader back to life!
I did consider submitting this without the last stanza - it would have been a totally different poem
