This is a a well structured piece of historical poetry that enriches the reader mentally. The message of the poem is faulty and makes excuses for men's selfishness and foibles. They all wanted to take advantage of weaker women and it boomeranged. cheers

Thank you for the kind words - and for the pick up on Madame Guillotine - I knew I would get pinged for something! As an ex French teacher I should have known better!
As for awarding a six - maybe there's a sequel in the works - actually I've just started thinking about a series of 'Brief Histories'... britain, America, Eng Lit, TV, The Bible ...
Got a bit of research to do first so I don't make too many more boo-boos!

I don't know how anyone could be put off by your poem. It's alomost all true...and shows the creativity and resourcefulness of the fairer sex.

Starting with the very first stanza all the way to the last you got this reader hooked, this is a masterpiece of history-poetry, and I know this was not easy, composing this crafty piece and rhyming with perfect words, superb! My only regret is that I don't have a six left, your poem is a perfect ten. Thanks for sharing, great job.

Starting with the very first stanza all the way to the last you got this reader hooked, this is a masterpiece of history-poetry, and I know this was not easy, composing this crafty piece and rhyming with perfect words, superb! My only regret is that I don't have a six left, your poem is a perfect ten. Thanks for sharing, great job.

A masterful work, almost epic in its mass of history, but hey, weren't all these works written by men? just a thought.. YOur rhyme, meter, word usage all excellent, and I love the whimsical tone with which it's writ. Nary a typo, nothing to correct or suggest--good job! later and God bless, shy, notably prejudiced towards more feminist works

'Cherchex la Femme' is a delightfully written and entertaining piece. While this poet's thoughts on the stronger and sweeter sex may well land him in trouble, he will no doubt learn a lesson on trying to mix it with the best of them! It was a pleasure to review a work of this standard.

Your first stanza is an eye opener to common perception of "behind every great man there is a great woman". So the reader is lead on to witness the bewitching power of woman. I can see why the apology is given in the author's note. Also the recognition of "creative" history: Louis 16th had an arranged marriage for political purposes. It was not him going looking for Marie Antoinette. I do love the last line of your poem.

Yes, I took some liberties with historical fact to ensure I got a good range of bewitching women - poor old Marie has always had a bum deal out of popular legend.
