Laws are laws. Flagstaff, AZ. has increase the levies and punishment if they are not paid. The street vender is a thing of the past. This is very well written.

Why, thank YOU Rosah...I am wondering every day...as these dictators run, well, Kadafi not yet...but I love that the little people are there, raising fists to tyranny! God help them...and that poor kid. He was not much older than my son. It's so wrong, that people cannot be KIND to each other. That fruitstand hurt no one...he should have been allowed to at least try to get the permit? I don't know. I would have sent him money for a permit...then probably would have been charged with helping a terrorist. THAT'S how evil, I think, government is. I don't know. Thank you for reading and this kind review Rosah...hug! Susan

i think you are right, so very much is taken out of context, twisted, and then our good intentions used for ammunition, ....hard to know when to help, and if helping won't just make things worse, as much of an impact as this had on you, can you imagine what it did to his family and friends as they watch their friend, son, loved one...country....burn.....it is people like you, that bring these stories to the uninformed, that also make such a huge difference...bless you!

Suse, I'm tempted to tell you that you care too much, but that is just a facile platitude. I wish you wouldn't take everything so personally, but that is wrong, too. We should all do everything we can, but we don't.

The world is a big place, and our ability to influence it is usually small. Do what you can, Susan. But don't beat yourself up over things you can't control.

You stay strong and healthy first. Tilt at windmills second.

Just my thoughts. Peace, Lee

Hi Lee! Thank you!! I know, you are right...I am going to put myself first, here these next few weeks. Doctor, dentist, my art...I wish I could fix the world. But, this is a ridiculous sentiment, I know. Thank you for being a great friend...susan

Susan, I wish you had included the information in your author's notes in the essay itself. Without the author's notes, the essay is incomplete. Other than this, your essay expresses your response to this tragic incident with powerful and moving emotion. Brooke

Freedom is never free. I did not see the story about this young man, however, all across his country and in other places some fight for a right others want to take away. It's happening here in America; Example every time those that can some how afford to pay more for gas; someone who can't make that choice walks = his money is needed elsewhere. I feel American should have a 'NO Gas Day' where they do not buy any gas at the very least; not driving that one day would be fantastic. 200 million striking against OPEC and everyone who is increasing the oil prices will notice and would stop this. Prices only go up as long as people willingly pay. Your piece was interesting.

HI Carolyn!! Thank you, and yes, you are so right! AND I wish we could do just this! I have heard of this, why don't we try to start a day of no driving? ALSO, we need to ALL, and I mean ALL, NOT pay taxes one year. They just keep stealing more and more of our paychecks every day. Almost half goes to them now. You work until May, just to pay taxes. That's almost half a YEAR! WRONG!!! IT is infuriating! BUT, Americans are too lazy and complacent. As long as we have a t.v. and a car, well, boy we are just fine!! HA! I'll shut up! Thank you for a thoughtful and kind review!! I appreciate hearing someone speak up!! HUG! Susan

What a sad story and I am sure there are many more of these stories of sacrifice in order to make a stand--I love the last paragragh where you salute, pray for Mahammed Bouazizi for him standing up to the opposition--great job.

A very noisy place that middle East. A window consisting of three nations yearn for Muslim control in the name of Democracy. Lets just hope we see no Holy War between the Christian Jew and the Muslim.

This is a very nice piece. It has a good voice to it. I like the tone that it sets. Some of the transitions are a little broken. I is a nice piece overall.

HI Barb! Thank you...I wrote this filled with emotions...I guess that's why it's short. I am so amazed at these brave souls...and I love that it's spreading. We need some revolt here in the U.S. as well. I'm sick of taxes being raised and squandered! And corruption in government too. But we are all given just enough, that we don't want to risk losing it...sad. Thanks again!! HUG! Susan
