Especially wonderful insight into the Japanese method, for that matter, poetry in general. I always find your writings to be enlightened and wish myself to more lucrative futures when I can afford to take some of your classes.

The haiku info is invaluable and may serve to answer many questions here. Then again, who k nows. LOL. Still would have liked to have seen a bit more on the classic haiku as that is what most here write.
Love the knowledge you have and appreciate to very much your sharing it!!!!

Thanks for a good review. If you take my class on Shorter Poetic Forms in April (a shameless promotion here), we shall discuss classical haiku. Actually, they are not necessarily about nature and do not involve a 5/7/5 syllabic structure. (The class is available for registration now.)Thanks again for a great review.

It is a wonderful write Al and I'll consider that for all my first teachings on haiku have been blown to tiny little bits here. LOL.

Hey Teach, Thank you so much for this informative lecture on Japanese short forms! I love the insight you've shared with us. I really believe you've unlocked some of the mysteries that surround our Western perceptions. I'm so glad that more poets will learn that haiku is not simply about counting syllables and thinking up pretty satori lines. I really believe you've unlocked some of the mysteries that surround our Western perceptions. I'm so glad that more poets will learn that haiku is not simply about counting syllables and thinking up pretty satori lines. Thanks for an exceptional review. That's a great posmodern haiku. You could omit the definite articles (the is used three times.) Do you mean bare? Thanks again.

This has to be one of the most informative and well written posts I have read for a long time. I had no idea that haiku and senryu had so much depth and meaning. I always thought it was a couple of lines where the syllable count was the most important. Thank you for sharing this enjoyable piece.
