The interesting thing i got from this poem was the truth in the fact that we grow up, go our seperate ways, and at some time, we rediscover our mothers, hopefully while they're still with us. There is a change that takes place sometime in that period when the love we have changes. I know it did in me when I moved mom out here so I could take care of her. We are now at the age when we can fully appreciate what our mothers did for us and why. Makes for a fuller, closer relationship. Thanks, amigo.

"Away for so long I'd forgotten,
just how much I miss having you there.
To see you when I'm having breakfast,
means I'm home and I know that you care."

Makes me want to call my mother.
... OK. I just did!

Thanks mrgrunty. Well done.

What a soft but heart breaking poem for me to read. Having two children that are my breath and a husband that is my entire heart, it was so painful to read this. I applaud you for writing this and think you did a great job speaking your pain, although I feel there is so much more.

You know it is even more painful for her not to be able to show you how much she loves you.

Great work, my friend:)

Am I moved by this poem ? No question , since I am a " mama" and fortunaly very loved by them, even if are all far away . I appreciate how mature and in contact with your feelings you are, to be able to write without the male fear of been considered a "mamma's boy ". The show of your feelings honestly and when it counts, is the greatest gift any mother will treasure always.

"Arriving to see me tomorrow,
I'm excited as hell, say it true.
I miss your familiar voice, mother;
how I'm waiting to say "how are you?"

I can see why this is an all-time-best poem. It is very well done. The meter is good and easy to follow. However, the thought and emotion that the lines bring to the reader is what makes it excellent. Well done.

Very poignant and full of emotion. It is difficult at times for those of different generations to be truly open with their feelings and you have captured that very well here. I highly recommend the works of the brothers McCourt (Frank and Malachy) if you have not read them already. They are relpete with emotion of this kind. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your writing.

A beautiful poem, indeed. Possesses a nice rhythm and flow from beginning to ending. I think I'm going to show this poem to my daugther to tell her that she, too, will one day like having me around. She's 13 (ugh, yes those teen years) and right now she thinks mom is pretty useless.

Hi mrgrunty,
That was a flow along poem, it was easy to slide thru. The rhyme was perfect, the meter was good and the emotions in the poem
were felt.
Excellent Job

What a beautifully written poem. I was really touched by your words. There is nothing like the feeling one gets from their Mother, even if she is not the overly affectionate type. Well done, I enjoyed reading.
