Oh dear- he really did have it in for Harley! I should know the name of this form, but I can't place it. It's fun, anyway! I like the but, Leo... line that repeats. It states and restates his place in the family

Hi; thank you so much for the read. Leo was one of those cats that felt dogs were truly beneath him. He never warmed up to Harley and believed the little dog needed to go!

the poetic form is a Villanelle

Of course... I did know that. I have even written a couple way back when. Most of my verse is reversed acrostic or pleached though.

Hi; what is 'pleached?' That is a totally new term for me,

pleached poetry... aka braided verse. There's a book of it in my portfolio somewhere. I tend to be writing prose OR verse. Might do some more when I finish the current prose kick.

Hi there; Leo was one of those special cats. He loved the camera, and he had the sweetest personality. I only have two dogs now. I've been without cats for some time now. These poems were some I wrote back in 2011 and I've revived them,

Ok it is great that you revived them!

Very nicely written with those repeating lines. I presume "Harley" is also a cat in the house; one Leo isn't fond of. Could also apply to people at work... we all have a co-worker who is a good friend and one who is a rat!

hi there; you almost had it! Harley was a Jack Russell terrier puppy, and Leo actually despised him. He never got near him and tried desperately to pretend he wasn't even in the house,

"...and tried desperately to pretend he wasn't even in the house" Funny - I do that with my in-laws all the time!

Hi Kerry; thank you for this review. Yes, as I was getting all of the Pet Stories together, I found myself wanting to share some of the old posts, so I revived them. (Now, however, I need to get my mind away from all the fur! lol.)
    I'm glad you enjoyed this,

Hi Teri; thank you for reading this poem. Leo has been gone now for almost five years, but I still smile when I see the pictures of him. He was such a ham!
    I appreciate your continuing support,

This is a very interesting piece. It has a good & interesting rhythm & moves very nicely. While it was obvious that Leo was the star I couldn't help wondering is Harley a rat or something else? Good job & good luck.

Hi there; I write about my pets a great deal. I've written several stories about Leo, Simba, and Harley. Leo and Simba were cats, and Harley was the little puppy who came into their lives. They tolerated him, but Leo never really warmed up to him.

Thank you so much for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem,

This work is impressive. The form is daunting. Your story flows in spite of it.
A bit of action, a bit of tenderness and a bit of humor make for a nice poem.
Good job.

The Villanelle is a tricky form with just the two rhymes throughout and a repeating line to weave in too. This one flows well and the rhyming is unforced. Leo looks like a pretty special cat and quite a personality.

Hi Patty,
I thought this poem was very entertaining to read. We learn about Simba, Leo and Harley. Funny the though of Harley being a rat :)
The rhyming doesn't seem forced, ad it was a fun read.

thank you so much for this lovely review of Leo's poem. He was a beautiful cat, though he never grew to care anything for Harley.
