Ah, that's adorable. I can just see you puttering away out there, building things. What a fun hobby, Cedar. I bet that's where your name comes from, too. I thorougly enjoyed your poem. I hope you do well in the contest.

Thank you my friend for your great review and yes, that's how I
chose my pen name. In my opinion, cedar is the most beautiful wood that we have in the United States. Thanks again and have a great day. Cedar/Bill

Hi Cedar, I do like the visual imagery in my mind, I believe that every man wants his little get away, a shed, workshop or private place to do his man stuff. The smell of Cedar must be great in your workshop and I bet, a pound to a pinch of Pig shit, your chisels are as sharp as a surgeons blade. Nice work and a great contest.

Thanks my friend for your great review. I was just getting ready to read your entry. You're right Dave, I spend a week or so before cold weather sits in, sharpening blades and re-stocking
everything I need. If it wasn't for that little workshop, I'd probably be in the crazy house. Thanks again my friend. Cedar/Bill

I would like to visit that little enchanted workshop. I am fun of bird feeders and all sort of garden stuff; the most original the better. Anyway, your great poem got me going in here...

What a great hobby - so, are some of those whirlygigs you were telling me about ones you've made yourself? Your poem uses quatrains in abcb rhyme well and has good descriptive detail and I love the humor in the conclusion - good luck in the contest :-) Brooke

Thanks Brooke. Yes, a lot of the whirligigs came from the workshop. I build all sorts of stuff, from lawn furniture
to house furniture. Thanks again and have a great day. Bill

Thanks for opening the door
cedar to your little workshop.
You make a very good point about
space between the he and she.
I'm retired near nine years but
found a part time job I enjoy.
Therein is my space.
I enjoyed your little workshop.

Thanks for sharing this with us on fanstory - my uncle was a carpenter and is sadly no longer with us but we've had a birdhouse made from him. My sister has been working on a bird table for us which we are hoping to pick up very soon. Having a hobby or being involved in some form of voluntary work or both is as you say essential and what I intend to do - health permitting. Take care Jennie

Thanks Jennie for your great review. Woodworking is such a relaxing hobby. If you don't mind, what exactly is a bird table.
I've never heard of that. Thanks again my friend and take of yourself. Bill

It's like a small table on a post of some description where you put bird food. Ours will have a roof and I suppose a container of sorts could be put on it for water although it's primarily for feeding. Must be us English!! Jenniex

Thanks Jennie. I agree, It must be an English term. Our water containers for birds are called bird baths. It's a plastic stand with a large container shaped like a bowl attached to the top. The birds bathe and drink from it. Thanks/Bill

We have those too and call them bird baths!! we have bird tables too that birds can land on which can have water to drink as well. Maybe you could google it I'd be interested to know what you find! Jenniex

I particularly like the fifth stanza. To me it is more descriptive than the other 5 stanzas. I can feel the adoration you have for the workshop in it. I think, however, that it would have made more interesting writing if you had started the first stanza with the winter coming and you going to your woodworking shop.... That way the poem starts and ends with the seasons changing, just as the need for the workshop did.

What a delightful poem,
so uplifting and cheerful.
Your words are full of
promise and good cheer. You've
chased away any dark clouds that
were hanging about. Bird houses
and feeders, how grand and a perfect
place to take a stand. no nits or
spags. Lora

You know I felt so much love and warmth after I read this poem. Maybe because my brother is also an artist of woodcarving. I love the feelings in this and the flow is excellent. I actually could smell the nice smell of the cedar and see you working on that bird house.

Now you must tell me where do you buy one of your fantastic homemade bird home's. I love the picture and I also love that cup of coffee you are talking about. I shall warm mine up right now.

Great write I adored much

Blessings
Magics
