This is such a wonderful tribute to dad. The story is so perfectly told. Your rhym does no feel forced at all and the flow is smooth. I love the ending. Jesus will be waiting for him, I just can't imagine him gone though.

Very well written with godd flow etc... I agree with you that soldiers should never get jeered on just for following orders, even when there fighting in wars for the wrong reasons because of greedy politicians, which is all to often the case, one mans terroist and all that..

Very poignant poem. I like to consider these as stories as you definitely tell a story. I wish we saw poems going up everywhere to celebrate our soldiers. This would be a great monument to what they give us.

As the tears run down my face, I can only wish that our Vietnam Vets were treated better when they came home. I hope your Marine's battle with cancer goes quickly - either for better or to take him home, where Jesus will welcome him with open arms. Wonderfully written and heartfelt. Blessings, ~patty~

this is a beautiful tribute to the soldiers who came home to disrespect and for the ones that didn't come home at all, people need to realize soldiers are doing a job, not making a political statement. is this marine your husband or your father? i pray his cancer goes into remission

Till this day I keep asking God to help me to forget how my brother was treated when he came home. he was never the same. God helped me to forgive but that forgeting part is still hard for me and I'm sure many others.

Your comments have touched my heart. It was a sad time in history. How is your brother now? While in the hospital some nurses and doctors noticed my husbands tattoo and then thanked him for his service. That meant a lot to him. Thanks for reviewing. -Judy

Many suffered after coming back with things, like agent orange and other horrible things. They went to serve, and I never understood, why the people turned on them. I will pray for you, your family. Cancer takes its toll on the entire family, but fortunately with today's great doctors and medicine, many forms are treatable.
It is sad that our government does not do more for returning veterans. We as a nation needed to fight for better laws regarding them.
