I like that you provide so many practical, specific examples to illustrate the important point you are making. You are so right about everything, from volunteering to simply being friendly to neighbors, strangers and people you come into contact with in service situations. If everyone followed just a couple of your recommendations, our world would vastly improve :-) Brooke

Well written, and good points all. When you can no longer work, it really helps to find something to do that you enjoy.

Love this for the terrific compassion you show and the wisdom that glows from your soul with statements such as this:

I receive more enjoyment and satisfaction than at any job I have held. They look forward to me coming, and I for sure look forward to going there!

Beautiful and spirited!!!

Hi, Dejohn, this story of yours is a gift to me. It emphasizes that kindness, cheerfulness, thoughtfulness are also gifts, and gifts that stay in the receivers heart too. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great piece and I agree with you 100%! People must take more time to be kind to others and spread a little light in this world. You are so right about how helping another can make you feel so very good. Once, at the store, an elderly woman did not have enough money for her groceries. There was a long line behind her and I could see she was getting flustered so I offered to pay for the rest of her groceries. She was so, so thankful and I felt good knowing that I helped make her day!

You'll never, ever regret an act of kindness. Very nice piece. You'll find comments and concerns in [ ]s for you to check out.

Giving is the greatest gift you can receive. When you give to others, it will come back twice to you. A look on a face and a heartfelt thank you are so much more meaningful than [bring next sentence up here]
a materialistic gift you might receive.

An easy way to help others is a 'random act of kindness.' [random act of kindness'.]

Love the theme and you present some fine examples to inspire others towards random acts of kindness.

Kindness is the true religion, in my opinion.

I like the straightforward and simple phrasing in this work. You have some spag nits and formatting typos to attend to. This post deserves to polish to brightest shine, so here are some reviewing notes and suggestions:

**Giving is the greatest gift you can receive. When you give to others, it will come back twice to you. A look on a face and a heartfelt thank you are so much more meaningful than (NO LINE BREAK)
a materialistic gift you might receive.

**Materialistic gifts are used or not, but rarely bring to mind the good things about the person who gave them to you.

the phrasing here is slightly awkward. Small alterations might improve it. For example

Materialistic gifts may or may not be used, and they rarely bring to mind the good things about the person who gave them.

*An easy way to help others is a 'random act of kindness.'

In this case, the period should be BEFORE this symbol '

LIKE THIS-

An easy way to help others is a 'random act of kindness'.

Also, this might be most potent if used as single line paragraph, so I suggest adding a line break after it.

*If the shopper in front of you is a quarter short, give them 25(twenty-five) cents. (NO LINE BREAK HERE)
You will both have a better day! Smile at the grumpy sales clerk as she checks you out and wish her a nice day, she just might have one.

**I like this paragraph--so many people do not realize these opportunities are available.

One of the best ways to help others is volunteering. There are literally hundreds of volunteer jobs in any area. Volunteering covers a lot of different possibilities. You can clean a park, tutor children or volunteer to work with the elderly.

--consider adding in visiting the sick in hospitals. (That's what I do every day here in India)

*My volunteer job is working at an adult daycare doing arts and crafts 16 (SIXTEEN)hours a week.

It's great to hear you work with the elderly in day cafe. I think your heart is anything but disabled!

Bravo for your good works and kind heart.

Love and smiles,
rd

This work has reached the exceptional level

Well done!
A simple piece, clear and precise, well written with a good direct message, in all ways but one.
There is no smiling picture to compliment it!
(Just a loose piece of humour!!)
It doesn't need one.
the shopper in front of you is a quarter short, give them 25 cents,,,,have done this for an old man who came up too short,,the smile on his dial(and the counter clerks) made my day!
What you describe is the best gift people who are not materialistic inclined will receive.
Also not fit too work, i often think of going to elderly home and offering services,,,but are a very solastic person and sometimes find it hard to step out my own door!
Very nice piece John!

What a great world this would be if everybody followed your suggestions - and your example. Your opening paragraph is a good introduction to your whole topic. Obviously the gift of oneself is a meaningful one, but today it seems to be too much of a bother. Perhaps copying this essay and handing it out would achieve wonders.
