barbara,
first of all there is a less expensive drug for the nausea and vomiting called ondansetron ODT 4 mg/zofran - glenmark manufacturing. also another one that isn't coming to mind helps. it is a cream you rub on your wrist. i know they work. i have to keep the pills for my daughter as she gets carsick. when i was on chemo and had insurance i still couldn't get anyone to give me nausea meds. my friends threatened to buy me marijuana. my heart goes out to you. this is a rough thing you are going through. i love your poem. it speaks volumes. if i can find the name of the other drug i will pm you with it. keep hope alive.
love,
barbara

My insurance paid for the nausea drug. It's called emend. My cost was $9.00 for 6 pills. The insurance paid, $798.99. That comes to $135 per pill. I am shocked. This is rediculous. I can't believe it. I still feel slightly nauseated, but not bad. I do think it's making me dizzy though.

it is shocking what the pharmaceutical companies charge. people have no choice but to pay. the chemo alone can make you dizzy.

Whether this is good poetry, mediocre or bad, there are countless numbers of people who will read it through and identify with every word. That is it's strength. "Chemo therapy shows no mercy." That says everything. Lost my wife to cancer over thirty years ago. There have been a great many improvements in treatment since then. Chances of survival today are far better than in the early 80's. Thanks for sharing this.

Well God be with you, but there is not better therapy to heal than faith, with out faith there can not be cure, because even if you don't believe in God and I don't think that is your case, for chemotherapy to work, you have to believe that is going to work, that is faith.

Hi barbara,
You write a pretty darn good free verse! I know how frightening it must be for you. I was very glad I didn't have to take chemo. My mother did as well as both of her sisters.
Just take everything a day at a time. You already know you're okay, no matter what happens.
I send you positive thoughts & prayers. God is blessing you.
Take care,
deb

Very well written poem expressing your feelings of fear and pain, but also your triumph. Your words touched a nerve in me because of a friend of mine that just finished undergoing chemo. I wish you all the luck and say a blessing for you. Keep writing your poetry, you are very good at it.

Barbara:
I admire your strength in fighting
this insidious disease -- I truly
believe a positive spirit such as
yours helps more than people can even
imagine -- journaling whether through
poetry or prose is also most helpful
My prayers are with you

Thank you for sharing your feelings through the words of your poem. You are a poet. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I know you will gain strength from those closest to you and that will definitely mean your students. One of the principals, at a school I taught at, had lung cancer two years ago. She went through experimental treatments and had a portion of her lung taken out. She is cancer free. . Many prayers went up for her as have for you. Lots of love, ann

Hi, barbara.
I'll say a prayer for you.
My husband has been through all that. He had a year of chemo and then, a bonemarrow transplant. It has been almost five years since that, and he is doing well, and he looks very healthy.
Keep a positive attitude. That's what he did. He kept cheerful through it all.
You wrote a great poem.
May God bless you,
April

Hi Barbara. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I also write on a blog site on wordpress.com and there is a lady there that writes about what she went through with cancer. Her blogs are uplifting and filled with hope. Please visit her as you go through this and read her posts. I just know they will help and she would happy to talk to you and hold your hand as you go along.
