This is an interesting topic for a story. I enjoyed reading your spin on the "waiting" of the stillborn. The young man hopefully gets a second chance. A good story.

Still exploring the site and I decided to drop in. I imagine Him with a Yiddish accent rather than Irish, but we're on the same page. A gentle, hopeful tale. Nancy

Goodness, this is such a powerful story. I felt like sobbing my heart out, so am sat here with a great big lump of emotion in my throat. I can understand how you were a winner in the competition. Superb writing detailing complex thoughts about life and death in a way that was both interesting and very moving. I want to thank you and wish I had a six star to give you.

I can see why your story placed in the contest...Congrats! This is a terrific, magical yet homey view of a life that wasn't quite. I've never considered the perspective of a stillborn voice before. Excellent.

A marvelously told and truly strange story, Lee. I loved the creativity in the idea, for starters, and the way it was told made it so believable, as if I were actually watching this conversation play out before my eyes. It was truly a remarkable story in every way. How creative you are!!

You are indeed a storyteller, and perhaps add a dash of theology to spice things up. This is clever, orginal, and well written. Good luck in the competition.

Great fairy-tale type story. Starts slow and keeps on rolling into a full fledged most entertaining and sweet narrative. I enjoyed reading this very much.

I love it!

My favorite line:

"Ah, but look at me now. All the experience in the world, and I still can't keep the lint out of the belly-button, now can I?"

LOL! Sums up all our contemplations and confabulations of God, now donnit? And, the whole of life as mostly the fabric of waiting; what a deep thought. We wait to be, then wait to be gone; wait to arrive then wait to leave. We wait to fall in love, then sometimes wait to escape.

Great job, Lee!

Wow! Lee, this is amazing! I am so glad I popped into my voting booth or I would have never seen this entry of yours. It is truly a special write. The line: "But they were waiting to love me" gave me chills.

"Waiting is the tense in which life is truly written" is the ultimate profound thought. That is so on the mark, it is eerie.

Lee, I seemed to have missed this one-not sure why. Was it a blind entry?? Anyway, what a wonderful story-truly enjoyable!!! I love the way you show a boy coming to God in his office in heaven to talk to him about being a stillborn and if maybe he could get another chance...you show us how it might be when someone is dead and how the family is missing and wanted that child. And you give us hope at the end-LOVE that! I could picture this sweet boy talking to the big man-the dialogue was spot on, so well done. An extremely well written piece. I see why it's nominated and I wish you lots of luck!!! Have been out of town for a bit, so sorry I am behind! Hope you and your mother are well. :) Dana
