A Candle In the Night

The closest I can come to a spooky poem, I guess.

You have great artwork and a good flow with your poem-you give good description about the candle and how thoughts of different things go through your mind-great job.

The hope you give the reader with your words, Merri, is what makes this poem one to remember. You know, you always find the right words that just makes your poetry sound so good when read out loud. Have I told you how much I love reading your stuff??

Thanks for letting us know that this poem is not autobiographical--otherwise we wonder and sometimes worry! I enjoyed your less-usual, five-line stanzas and rhyme scheme and the supernatural quality of the transformation you describe. Your rhythm is lovely, as are your "dreams" and "friend" similes and "light" and "face" metaphors.

Phew, so glad it is not autobiographical...
A lovely structure and clever use of the rhyme at the end of each stanza.
I most enjoyed the stanza with the pooling candle wax. What a great metaphor that is for life dwindling down, losing its shape and purpose.
Thoroughly enjoyable, MM.
Best wishes
Sally

What a delightul poem about hope and faith renewed. The rhythm and rhyme are excellent! The poem has great focus and clarity. When I read this, I can feel the heartfelt transition from despair to renewed hope and the emotion that accompanies its discovery. I also like the unique ending of each stanza.......Congratulations on an excellent poem MissMerri

I really like the ababc rhyming with each c line rhyming with the other c lines, Adonna. I also like the progression from hopelessness to hope and the intense emotion throughout.
Nice alliteration in watch the waning light. Strong visuals throughout also. Brooke

I don't believe spooky is all it's cracked up to be. I prefer true to life experiences, they're spooky enough by themselves.

Well done, Buck

Yep, you are so right, Buck. I'm not sure I could do spooky all that well, though I'd like to try. Thanks for reading this.

Absolutely beautiful. I love the quatrain format, followed by the 5th stanza (1/2/3/1/4).

Quite a moody and thoughtful piece, Miss Merri. I was very intrigued by the rhyming scheme. The metaphors of candle (light) and darkness (loneliness, cold, dark mood) is very nicely drawn. I've missed you! And where did your picture go?

Thank you for your encouraging review, Carol. I went to Colorado for a week, and when I came back, I thought I'd put a picture of my traveling companion up but after I did, he didn't like it, so I'll have to find another picture. Thanks for missing me! How nice it is to be missed. :^)
