This is a very well-written but sad story. You have told this story with good imagery and emotional appeal. It is true that the wildlife is gradually losing its ability to survive due to human encrochment on their territory.

Hi Beth! Thank you again! This is a favorite subject, I mean, I am always upset when an animal is hit along a road. SO very sad. I could really break your heart with one incident. But I won't. Thank you for this great review! Love, Susan

Susan,
your Western fiction story is wonderfully written and a delightful read. Your story paints a vivid picture in the readers head. Great action, very good narrative and good descriptive writing. Hos sad the baby cougar died. I loved the last paragraph and I loved this line: "the mother cougar finally left her cub, to disappear like a ghost into the red hills of Arizona." Your story was moving and technically excellent. It was a pleasure reading your short story. Have a lovely day or evening.

I am very bad with pieces like this. They are so devastating for me and I had to stop twice due to the tears. This is a very complimentary review because I normally would have stopped by the end of the first paragraph, but it was so well written, I felt compelled to read on. I hated it, but am very impressed with your skill in writing this tragic and true piece about man's infringing on natural habitats of animals in the wild
excellent, excellent writing

Wow Jude, I am happy, yet not...that you were upset...but death is as much a part of life as life. Thank you so much, for reading this, your opinions always mean a lot to me. And I love all the wild things, and just can't stand to see so much "progress", but it is unstoppable. Thank you again my friend. Luv, Susan

Hi Day! Yes, but you know, humans are just going to keep on taking over all the wildlands. It's a sad thing. SO very sad. I love the cougars. We have some in Indiana too. We have seen 4 or 5 in just this 3 county area in the passed few years. ") Just beautiful. One came up to our barn too, my son chased it off! Yes, he is a nitwit at times? ") Luv, Susan

lol... nitwit maybe? Better safe than sorry though. Cougars are beautiful!!

This is a beautiful story of a mother's love for her cub. We see this all too often, but as long as we continue soliciting newly developed properties, i.e., homes, shopping malls, and automobiles, there will be lots more loss of wildlife.
Good write.

This was so sad. Regardless of the animal that is hit by a car, I am always heartbroken when I see it. However, the thought of a beautiful cougar dead for no reason takes my breath away. This is well written and it touched me deeply.

Hi Margaret!! Yes, I have heard about these lovely creatures starving in California and maybe Arizona, we have a few cougars in Indiana. They call them panthers here! I had one on tape a few years ago. It came up out of the woods. Stood beside our mailbox, and trotted nonchalantly down along the edge of the road out of sight! I was amazed! Thank you my friend, it's wonderful to know you like this one!! Luv, Susan

Hi Cookie! Thank you!! Yes, and it will only continue too. Sadly, humans are just engulfing everything. Talk about a plague of locusts! It's very disheartening. SO glad tho, that this gave you a sense of what I was conveying! ") Thank you my friend. Susan

Comment from Dom G Robles
This is a story of a lioness, a cub, who on an evening walk across a new freeway on a mountain was hit and thrown through the impact of the bumper to her hind legs and thrown to a ditch and later died. It was not until morning when the mother lion found her dead cub. The mother sat at her side asking the cub to follow her home. The writer says. "Hours later, the moon finally retreated into morning, and as the sun came up, the mother cougar finally left her cub, to disappear like a ghost into the red hills of Arizona."
