Perfect..."Raise taxes on the middle and lower classes, to subsidize corporate welfare. The upper class has carried the load for too long and it is about time that the middle and lower classes foot their fair share of the bill." I love the satire...it was an entertaining read. Could probably eliminate the first paragraph "This has always been my mantra" isn't really needed...would flow just fine into the following paragraph. Either way, its a nice piece.

"Compassionate socialists"?? LMAO, Bill! Your satirical essay is spot on in its delivery and (IMO) its message. Loved the way you delivered your best lines: very matter-of-factly, so much so that this whole essay sounds utterly believable--a sure sign that it was exceptionally well written.
Lots of laughs in this one. Enjoyed the juxtaposition of those welfare cheats and the poor corporations having to stand by while their "entitlements" are siphoned off. The dollar comparison, and your insistence that a three-to-one ratio just wasn't good enough, was absurdly hilarious. Very well done!

I must say that I disagree with your viewpoint (I believe we are way overspending on welfare programs when we are in a huge deficit) but I believe your piece is well written. Sue

Sue, thank you so much for the very kind revew. I respect your viewpoint, but I believe this huge amount we supposedly spend on welfare is a myth. Have you ever actually seen figures on how much we spend? Look it up and you will be surprised. If we totally eliminated welfare, it would do little to reduce the deficit. Welfare was significantly reduced during the Clinton administration and know it is quite deficult to get welfare. I know several single mothers who were laid off, and were denied welfare. The real issue is how much we spend on corporate welfare. Personally, I don't mind if my tax dollars go to help some single mother trying to feed her children, but what infuriates me is that my tax dollars are going into the pockets of corporate executives who are already filty rich beyond imagination. Do you know that most corporations pay little or no income tax? Don't you think that is obscene when we have a huge deficit? The bottom line is that we spend much, much more on corporate welfare, than social welfare, but no one ever hears about that. Sorry for getting on my soap box, by I have done a good deal of research on this. Regards, Bill

I think you started by trying to impress yourself with your own ability. There was no hook, no grab for attention and only the mildest discovery as you plodded through the exercise.

Thank you for your review. I do have to correct you on one thing though: I had a great deal of fun writing this, as I know there are some who actually believe what I wrote (I assume you realize this was meant to be satirical).
