LOL - great job and congratulations on placing in the competition. Honestly, you deserved first - this describes all of us so well it's almost scary.

That photo is wonderful!

This is a great tribute to the aspect of writing that my nurse friends reassure me there are pills to combat! Never!

Well done, I'm sure I've told you this before I love your screen name - one Lewis Carroll may have thought up :)

Thank you, MM :-). First would have been nice - I guess I'll just have to write something better! Still, I'm totally stoked to be in the top few. As for the nutty side of writing, the place where all the magical lunacy happens, where would we be without it? We'd all be writing in the style of Dan Brown. No thanks! lol

A thought provoking, intelligent, witty piece that stirred something inside me that I can't put my finger on just yet...reminds me of Leonard Cohen's work. For what it's worth, I believe this is worthy of a first place win. Though, I'm presuming, that is not for what you write.

It's fair to say I don't write to win competitions, although it's equally fair to say a win would be nice, if only to help broaden the exposure of my writing! So glad you enjoyed this so much - it was one that came from that automatic writer inside, with barely a pause to let my fingers keep up. There's no arguing when a poems come like that :-)

I completely understand what you mean! I was talking of this exact phenomenon with a friend, not so long ago, and saying that there are some pieces of mine that I almost feel wrong to write my name as author when they clearly came from "someplace" else. I will say that that is one of the motivators that keep me writing...I mean, that's an obvious sign that that is what you are born to do...part of your internal wiring; who would want to argue with that?! And, well, I'm glad you didn't! Your work is brilliant!

*%$@ me runnin'! I have not a snowball's chance in hell of winning this one! Just when I thought I'd given as many sixes as chance will allow, here you come with your great spirit and humor AND TRUTH. This is one of the best poems I've ever read.

I bow to you, the winner of this month's POM.

Thank you, KSP! That's officially one of my favourite reviews ever :-). I don't think I'll be winning, much as I'd like to! It's been brillint being in the running with so many great poets though. Thank you :-)

Good job. I like the way you characterized a writers word manipulation passion. However I still ponder who you is. Nice meter and rhyme. Thank you for a splendid piece.

Within the swirls that twirl through me
you are whirlwind defined,
and if more clearly I could see,
my poetry would climb
beyond the night that raises me
within these pockets deep.

The darkest ones I do believe
hold fairest light. You seep
into my pores so I obsess.
Suppressed, I'd lose all will,
and so my love, you do possess
my heart that can't be stilled.

At start of daylight all too soon
again I'll think clear thought
while all I wrought as sleep's buffoon
seems shallow and for naught ...
'Til there! As pen burled through the night
'tis shown when day is new,

my love in words ... my pain, my plight.
Oh night, I must sleep through!

A taste of my own medicine! And what a sweet taste it is, Dear Jude. How right you are about the dark and the light. I'm a firm believer that the magic's in the contrast, and you don't get contrast without division and paradox.

    Thank you so much :-)

So you like it then? Yours was the one review that really mattered to me. I wanted to mention MORE of the title in my dedication in the author's notes, but because it's been nominated for POM, I didn't think it was quite fair to the others to just happen to promote yours when the poems have gone to the voting booth. I never would have even seen this piece IF you weren't nominated BECAUSE, although I asked you not to be brilliant while I was on holiday, you obviously WERE. You're the best, Jude

Hullo Fleedleflump ....

What you have written here makes for pleasant reading but I am left wondering what the picture of a man pointing a gun at one who is shaving, has to do with what you have written. You describe this as the perfect photo to go with your words. Well, I will probably still be wondering about this for the next few hours.
Now, I wish you well in the Contest.
Love from .... Nanette Mary.

Thank you, Nanette :-). The key to the picture is that it's the same guy, and his reflection is pointing the gun at him. This mimiced what I wanted to say about the muse and how it both tortures and excites us with all those magical thoughts and creations we don't quite manage to grasp. I'm so glad you enjoyed my poem!

Thank you :-). It does feel like an existence of two halves at times, a wrestling match where I'm the one in an overtight pink leotard, and my muse is the effortlessly cool dude all in black. I wouldn't change it for the world though!
