God, so much you write about, I can almost remember doing myself. My grandmother used the "Cure" on me when I got stung by a wasp or a no-good yellow jacket. Enjoy the stories and the memories you bring back.

Thanks for dusting off the archives and circling back for these stories. I keep saying that one of these days I'm going to take all the stories and make a book. Maybe I'll fully retire ...

Aw I love virge! and I want one! I think I mentioned in my last review how he reminds me of my grandfather. What lovely memories you have and how lucky you were to have known him. Your writing really brings him to life. I have a very clear picture of him in my mind, I wonder how realistic it is?

Hi Debbie - thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed. Virge is a very real person. Every time I write about him, it is all based on fact, but the truth is, it was over 50 years ago. I split my time between North Carolina and Georgia. Right now, I am at my families old home place. I got out of the car, stretched, and looked over to where Virge's cabin used to be. He is sure real to me! I'm framing my next story in my mind, and it will not involve Virge, but his neice Sugar Butts, oops, I mean Ms. Carrie. LOL Bill

Loved this. You did a magnificent job with the great detail and, especially, the dialogue. I felt like I was down South as I read this. Very genuine.

Thanks Monte - I'm glad that you read and enjoyed. I don't know if you have read it, but the character Virge is introduced in a story called Rabbit. Regards, Bill

Well, a little too deep for a nine-year-old, but, what the Hell. It might just be kid stuff, but you got a pretty good explanation down for what crying means.
i think I'm going to take THIS ONE, seriously.

A very humorous tale that is well written. The characters were strong and the dialog flowed well and sounded natural for the characters. When I kicked that dumb old tree my brothers were trying to trick me into believing was full of yellow jackets; my aunt tore up a couple of cigarettes and wet the tobacco and put it on my eyes trying to make the swelling go down enough so I could see again. I don't remember if it worked or not, but I sure remember kicking that tree.

An absolute great read, I loved every moment. I particularly loved your description up front about your special relationship with Virge. He sounded like a hell of a friend.

BTW... toward the end, third to last paragraph and next to last line, should it read, " I knew for certain, that I had a beating coming." had 'a' beating coming?

Loved your colorful ethnic language for Virge. I could visualize the old gent with every word. Magical.

Got some chuckles here: He called her "Sugar Butts". She did have an unusual build, defined by a rather large derriere.;p.. the ground swelled up a little and there was a sound, like, WHANK. LOL!!!...He looked like a herky-jerky dancer.hahahaha!!!

This made my day :) Thank you!

Oh, what a good story! I'm so glad you are telling these--and so well. Thank you for posting. Now I will go to bed a happy camper.

Very minor punctuation nits at the end:
I knew for certain(,) that I had beating coming. I didn't care(,) it was worth it. (--delete first comma altogether. Change second comma to a semicolon)

This is a very interesting story to read...The flow is great, very tight and easy to read, no mistakes that I could see...The plot seems like a day in summer for children everywhere, nice work...

A wonderful little story. I love these with Virg and you as a kid. Seems like little kids really enjoy the older set that like to hang out with them. They come to my house all the time, Grandma's lots of fun. Well done.

It is funny how everything goes in phases. My grandchildren think I'm the coolest thing going. My kids grew up rolling their eyes. Growing up with Virge, I never thought about him being old, and he never treated me like a little kid.
