Hi Kay,

This is a fine sonnet and almost makes me like Magpies! You have a lovely rhyme and an even flow that flows like liquid down the page. A good modern sonnet which I enjoyed reading. Blessings, chey

Well, our magpies can't sing for toffee! They squawk and chee-ack loudly. Attractive birds, though. I can see why the settlers called yours magpies, they are very similar. Lovely humorous poem. Kai. xxxxxx

Great flow, meter, and rhythm. I like this style of poetry, may try it next. I don't like magpies because the bomb my car too much and its taking the color off my vehicle. LOL But that's neither here nor there, great work. Leigh Ann

Thanks Leigh Ann, glad you liked the poem. Magpies can become pets if you feed them and they recognise you. Cheers, Kay.

I love the artwork and your poem has a great flow along with excellent rhythm and rhyme. You give great detail and you really enlightened me about a bird I didn't know anything about--a great read and very informative.

well maybe they see humans bombing and more than aggressive too and they take revenge in their own wings...

Birds live a simple life, they take what God gives to them with gratitude and grace... just like humans... Right?
hummm... nice Poem.

Thanks so much AmorGentil, glad you liked the poem and yes, birds live a simple life and not all humans are as grateful as the birds. Blessings, Kay.

This is what I love about poetry. You get to honor and revere something as irritating as a magpie. I personally have been bombed more than I have been impressed with these noisy thieves. Your poem does a nice job of presenting them as a respectable member of the avian society.
I'll try to look at them in a different light.
Great writing!

Hello Aussie.
This is a great poem about magpies, and it also says a thing or two about man. I really enjoyed the read. Excellent work!
Fondly, Rebecca

Rebecca, Thanks so much for reading and glad you liked the poem, birds are grateful for food, man is a different species. Birds take nothing for granted but sing to their Maker. Blessings, Kay.

Very good imagery. I could see the whole thing in my mind.
My favorite lines were the first stanza:
"Along the road the magpies walk
With hands in pockets, left and right.
They tilt their heads, and stroll and talk.
In their well-fitted black and white"
One thing - I would add a period after "white"
I liked how you described the birds' greed as
short-lived. Good form as well. I enjoyed this.

Aussie,

I have known and observed magpies for most of my life and concur with everything you have to say about them in this sonnet. Here, they are protected by law because many people consider them to be dangerous to livestock.

Duane, Thanks for reading and I can't imagine them being dangerous to livestock? They will become a pet if you feed them and every year they bring their young to us, probably because they trust us. Blessings, Kay.
