Wow, this is an excellent poem. I had not heard the term "Cowboy Up" but you explain it so well, I'll have to add it to my vocabulary. It certainly sound more attractive than "Lawyer Up" LOL.
Great Job!!!!!

I like this tribute poem to those who know and do the right thing, deepwater. Playing off the "Cowboy Up" idiom with a variety of defining characteristics of strong pragmatic men works well here. Original theme and clever presentation in smooth flowing rhymed and rhythmic verse.

Good poem.

deepwater,

Nice to see more of western poetry on this site. I appreciate your depiction of the cowboy and like the idea of keeping his image alive. Well done.

Hi, deepwater. Yes, these all sound like good ideas In your poem Especially this stanza:

""COWBOY UP"

It's what makes a cowboy tell it straight;
its being in pain, and calling your gate.
It's having nothing, yet having it all;
it's brushing off the dust and knowing how to fall"

Good job on this. Bob

Ah, this is a great effort. It makes you yearn for the cowboy life. The freedom, the beauty and smell of the horse. And of course the image of the main character. We all wanted to be cowboys when we were younger and still do, but are embarressed to admit it. This would make a great song, if you don't mind me saying so. The mixture of the old and modern Cowboy works perfectly.

This is wonderful. We've had our resident cowboy on the site in dportwood for quite awhile. It's nice to have another one "cowboy up". This was excellent and definitely can be interpretted and applied in anyone's life. excellent and welcome to FS!

Excellent piece of poetry. I know little of cowboys or the area since I'm an old bag living in the UK where we do not have such things. In any event, you really brought the whole scene to life with this lovely poetry. I can find no fault whatever and nothing to suggest changing.

Warm wishes
Kat

Yes, definately... well written. Teaches this Welsh small farmer's daughter about the great American life... I have enjoyed the way you dealt with this write, I like stuff that is laid out differently... catches the eye and also the imagination. Pat.
